ETIQUETTE - Young Ayr golfers show others the way

Good to see some young Ayrshire golfers being a credit to themselves, and no doubt their clubs, with this interesting snippet from the Bunkered magazine Facebook page this morning.

AN ETIQUETTE STORY FROM THE WEEKEND...
I played a well-known course in Ayr yesterday with a pal. Just the two of us.
There was a three-ball about to tee off ahead of us but, before they did, one of them asked us: "Do you want to go first? We don't want to hold you up."
...
We said our thanks and off we went.
Four holes in, we'd caught up with another three-ball and, without any hesitation, they stepped aside and waved us through.
You might think there's nothing remarkable about this. However, both three-balls were made up of kids who, at most, would have been no more than 14 or 15-years-old.
You know, it's so easy to criticise teenagers these days and lumber them with all kinds of negative labels. But these six kids were polite and displayed the kind of etiquette that many golfers two, three and four times their age just don't have.
A tip of the cap to all six of them! Keep up the good work, fellas, and keep enjoying your golf.

  • Robert Edwards Good to hear but not surprising. It's usually a 4 ball of belligerent seniors who should know better that won't let you through

  • Scott Ambrose Agree with the seniors comment...playing in a 2 ball the other week...held up quite intentionally by a 4 ball combined age of aboot 404. No idea how tempted I was just to use em as target practice

  • Paul Kerr Not surprised Mike. Certainly since I was a junior 10 years ago kids always seemed to have a better grasp of when to let someone go in front. Most others are oblivious.

  • Stewart Mcnab Well done lads !!!
  • Andrew Philip That's nice to hear .
We were at Brunston Castle on Saturday as a 2 ball in a buggy at the 1st the 4 ball about to tee off did the same and let us go only to be kept behind another 4 ball for 16 stricken holes who would not let us through, they were all over the place and we were held up on every shot for 16 holes, they could do with an etiquette lesson from those youngsters .
  • Bryan Sturrock Good to hear. I was playing with a friend yesterday. The course was mainly full of 4 balls. The group in front played soo slow that they group in front must have been 2 holes ahead and did not wave us through. It took us over 4 & a half hours to play. Poor show
  • Paul Bruce Howard That's good to hear
  • Scott Mitchell What course??
  • Andrzej Krwawicz Its the yanks that take photos and mark cards on the green that piss me off
