PRESTWICK LINKS CHAMPIONSHIP - Storm forces round one cancellation

The storms on Monday 23.05.11 caused the cancellation of the first qualifying round of the 2011 Prestwick Links Championship, leaving the players to complete the remaining qualifying round over either of the Prestwick St Cuthbert or Prestwick St Nicholas courses on Tuesday evening.

As a result of the first round cancellation, the players returning the best 8 single round scratch scores on each course on the Tuesday evening went through to contest the matchplay stages over the Prestwick Golf Club links from Wednesday to Saturday for the Nickson Trophy.

Similarly, in the handicap event the best four handicap returns over each course went forward to contest the matchplay stages for the Boyd Cup, from Thursday to Saturday.

Over St Cuthbert on Tuesday night, the leading qualifier was Kevin Brock (St Nicholas) with a two over par 73 whilst the cut for qualifying for the Nickson Trophy fell at 78.

At St Nicholas, David Glass (St Cuthbert) lead the qualifiers with a five over par 74, with the cut falling at 82.

In the handicap event for the Boyd Cup, the qualifying score over St Cuthbert was 74 with Martin Robbins (St Cuthbert) leading the qualifiers on 72, whilst the qualifying score at St Nicholas was 78, with Kenny McAlpine (St Nicholas) leading the field on 74.

The matchplay stages of the scratch competition, for the Nickson Trophy, get underway at Prestwick Golf Club on Wednesday evening. The draw for the matchplay is:-
