Prestwick golfer Ross Drummond had a closing round of 71, 1 under par, in the European Seniors Tour DGM Barbados Open at the Royal Westmoreland club on Friday, leaving him on a 3 round total of 216 and in a tie for 9th place.
Fellow Scot Bill Longmuir took the title after a closing round of 65 for a 206 total.
The next scheduled event on the tour is in Portugal at the end of March, when the Azores Seniors Open takes place at Batalha Golf Course.

EUROPEAN SENIORS TOUR - Drummond starts well in 2008 opening event

SLGA - Hendry in warm weather training squad
Lesley Hendry (Largs Routenburn), the reigning Ayrshire Ladies County Golf Association Champion, has been named by The Scottish Ladies Golfing Association in the squad of 12 players selected to attend a warm weather training camp at Pals in North-east Spain from March 8 to 19.

A capacity audience gathered at Irvine Ravenspark on Friday 22 February 2008 for the 26th annual dinner and presentation of trophies of the Ayrshire Golf Association, chaired by A.G.A. President Ricky Magee (Caprington).
The guest list included Scottish Golf Union President John Somerville along with Presidents, Vice Presidents and Secretaries of the five other West Of Scotland County Associations, sponsor Alan Harrington, a number of club captains and the two guest speakers, Joe camay & Kenny Clark.
After a fine meal, the presentation of awards was opened by Vice President Alasdair Malcolm (Prestwick St. Cuthbert) who, on behalf of Fields In Trust (formerly The National Playing Fields Association), presented their annual award for boys golf to Michael Stewart (Troon Welbeck).
Michael was nominated for the award by The Scottish Golf Union after an excellent 2007 season which saw him reach the semi final of the Scottish Boys Championship, lose in a play off for the Scottish Boys Strokeplay title and represent his country in venues as far afield as Wales, Denmark & China. Perhaps his finest moment of the year was holing the winning putt for Great Britain and Ireland in the match against Europe for the Jaques Leglise Trophy at Notts Golf Club.
After the medal was presented to Michael Stewart, County Secretary Leslie Crawford announced the 2007 trophy winners.

AYRSHIRE GOLF ASSOCIATION - Yearbook to be launched at Annual Dinner
The 2008 Ayrshire Golf Association Yearbook, published by D & M Journals of Edinburgh, will be launched at the Annual Dinner and Presentation Of Trophies of the Association, which takes place at Irvine Ravenspark on Friday 22nd February.
The yearbook is now in its fifth year of publication and on the front shows a photograph of Western Gailes, venue for the 2007 European Mens Team Championship. Inside the 40 page booklet there are reviews and pictures from the 2007 competitions, a message from County President Ricky Magee, a club directory, Roll of Honour and list of County & National fixtures for 2008.

Three students from Ayrshire are amongs a record number of 91 Bursars announced by the R & A recently.2007 Ayrshire Boys Champion Euan Brown (Kilmarnock Barassie) - pictured right -, who will be studying at Strathclyde is joined on the list by St. Andrews Student, and former Ayrshire Boys Champion, Cameron Gray (West Kilbride) - pictured below - and Chris Harkins (Ayr Belleisle) who is studying at Glasgow University.

AYRSHIRE JUNIOR GOLF LEAGUE - Draws made for 2008 competitions
At the first AJGL meeting of 2008, under the Chairmanship of Fleming Gibson (Caprington), on Tuesday 5th February, the draws were made for the 2008 Ayrshire Junior Golf League competitions.
In the LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP, holders Ballochmyle were drawn in Section C, alongside Ayr dalmilling, Kilmarnock Barassie and Caprington, whilst the 2007 runners up, Largs, will contest Section B alongside Irvine Ravenspark, Ayr Belleisle, Prestwick St. Nicholas and Largs Routenburn.
The draw for the four qualifying sections are :-

LADIES GOLF UNION ANNOUNCES NEW INTERIM CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
Ayrshire golfer Shona Malcolm, a member of the Prestwick St. Nicholas and Prestwick St. Cuthbert clubs, has been chosen for a top post in the world governing body of ladies' Golf.From The LGU Website :-
Shona Malcolm will take the reins at the Ladies’ Golf Union in St Andrews as Interim Chief Executive Officer until 30 September 2008.
Ms Malcolm, a Chartered Accountant, has been a Scottish Councillor on the LGU for the last year, and will take charge on a part time consultancy basis, taking responsibility at a crucial time in the implementation of the LGU Business Plan. Her immediate priority will be to develop a project plan for, and drive the delivery of, the Business Plan, with specific early emphasis on governance and staffing structures.
Shona, an R&A qualified referee, has been involved in golf administration for many years, having served as Honorary Treasurer of the Scottish Ladies’ Golfing Association (“SLGA”) for the five years to 2001 and more recently as Chair of the SLGA’s Business Development Group and the Scottish “One Plan for Golf” steering group. She is also involved in Scotland’s junior golf strategy as a Clubgolf board member.
Shona said, “I am delighted to take on this challenging role at what is a particularly exciting time for the LGU. I look forward to working with all the staff at St. Andrews to move the LGU forward in line with the approved Business Plan and to maintain and indeed strengthen the collective voice for women and girls golf.”

AYRSHIRE GOLF ASSOCIATION - 2008 Fixtures
The Ayrshire Golf Association have almost finalised the Fixture list of County events for 2008, with the exception of the Doc Thom Order Of Merit events.
The fixture list includes the reintroduced Ayrshire Seniors Championship, which will be played on a handicap basis, with both handicap & scratch prizes, over the Kilmanrock (Barassie) course in July. The player returning the best nett score overall will win a new trophy, to be called The Sandy Provan Trophy, in recognition of the long serving Championship Convenor's contribution to The Ayrshire Golf Association's activities ofer a number of years.

The Amateur Championship makes a return visit to Ayrshire from 16th to 21st June when the premier Amateur title is contested at Turnberry.
As well as the amateur events, golf fans can look forward to the Seniors British Open Championship, which will be held at Royal Troon from 24th to 27th July.
The Doc Thom Ayrshire Order Of Merit event is presently being reviewed with the intention of introducing a greater number of counting events, including local club open competitions and national championships, to augment the present 6 counting events.
Locla clubs are presently being surveyed in this regard, and details of the counting events for 2008 will be published around March.

In the Scottish Junior Tour, Irvine (Bogside) host the second event, on 20th April, and Kilmanrock Barassie again host the final event, eventy five, on 15th June.
The SGU also visit Ayrshire from 14th to 16th June when the Scottish Mid Amateur Championship is played at the Dundonald Links.
The Amateur Championship makes a return visit to Ayrshire from 16th to 21st June when the premier Amateur title is contested at Turnberry.
As well as the amateur events, golf fans can look forward to the Seniors British Open Championship, which will be held at Royal Troon from 24th to 27th July.
The Doc Thom Ayrshire Order Of Merit event is presently being reviewed with the intention of introducing a greater number of counting events, including local club open competitions and national championships, to augment the present 6 counting events.
Locla clubs are presently being surveyed in this regard, and details of the counting events for 2008 will be published around March.

SCOTTISH BOYS CHAMPIONSHIP - accommodation tip for Southerness
The 2008 Scottish Boys Championship will be held at Southerness from 7th to 12th April. Southerness is a top class course on the Solway Firth, although it is a little out of the way for ease of accommodation.
The following information has been forwarded by the parent of a prospective competitor, and may be a help to any boys thinking of taking part in the championship & looking for accommodation in the area.
"Wondered if you could pass info onto any boys looking for accomm for scottish boys at southerness next to golf course is a Parkdean Caravan site which will not let you book for the sun (practice round) will only take weekly booking £270
But there is a private site right next door called Lighthouse Leisure Park web site www.lighthouseleisure.co.uk tel 01387 880277 they will take a booking for sun night and sun to fri costs £180 for 3 bedroom caravan walking distance to golf course and they will do breakfast and 2 course dinner for £10.00.
think this is worth letting boys know about this rather than paying B&B and most are over 7 miles away."

A capacity audience from throughout the county, and beyond, will meet to honour the seasons winners, including the County Champions, the Ayrshire Boys Team who won the Scottish Area Boys Team Championship in 2007 and the Youths team who took the West Of Scotland Inter County Youths title.

AYRSHIRE JUNIOR GOLF LEAGUE - Farrelly becomes latest Honorary Member
Brian Farrelly (Ardeer) was honoured for his contribution to junior golf in Ayrshire, and his club in patricular, at the Annual General Meeting of The Ayrshire Junior Golf League in December 2007.
In recognition of his long association with The League, and his committment as Junior Convenor of Ardeer for over 10 years, he was elected an Honorary Member of the Ayrshire Junior Golf League, to become the 13th person so honoured since the formation of The League in 1968.
Brian served as A.J.G.L. Chairman in 2001 and also led Ardeer to their first League Championship win in 2003, which they followed up by retaining the title in 2004 and losing out in the final in 2005, when bidding for 3 in a row.
Brian joins the other seven surviving Honorary Members of The League, including fellow Ardeer member Bill Tinsley who was elected an Honorary Member in 1992.
The other surviving Honorary members are :- Sam Coulter (Maybole - 1980), Bob Grassom (Ayr Belleisle - 1984), Iain Harvey (Ayr Belleisle - 1990), Russell Cameron (Ayr Belleisle - 1990), Charlie McGregor (Irvine Ravenspark - 2000), Alastair Graham (Prestwick St. Cuthbert - 2002) & Alasdair J. Malcolm (Prestwick St. Cuthbert - 2002).

EUAN BROWN SIGNS UP FOR US COLLEGE
2007 Ayrshire Boys Champion and Junior Order Of Merit winner, Euan Brown (Kilmarnock Barassie), has accepted the offer a golf scholarship from St Mary's College of California, which is situated in the town of Moraga.Euan will go to the United States to begin studies in August 2008. Former Scottish internationalist Lorne Kelly from Dunnoon assisted Euan with the scholarship arrangements, through his ProDreamUSA company.

AYRSHIRE GOLF ASSOCIATION - Former Ayrshire Boys Champion Jim Spiers dies
Jim Spiers of Annanhill Golf Club, who was well known throughout Ayrshire golfing circles, has died.Jim won many championships in the county, during his long association with Annanhill.
Jim won the Ayrshire Boys Championship in 1975 over Troon Darley and Troon Fullarton, and numbered amongst his other successes wins in the Hillhouse Cup and back to back wins in the (Kilmarnock Standard) Ayrshire Champion Of Champions Trophy in 1986 & 1987.
Jim's funeral will be held at Holmsford Crematorium on Friday 23rd November at 10.00 a.m., and our sympathy is extended to his family at this sad time.

AYRSHIRE JUNIOR GOLF LEAGUE - Stewart presented with Junior Golfer Of The Year award at Annual Dinner
The 39th Annual Dinner and Presentation of Trophies of The Ayrshire Junior Golf League was held at Irvine Ravenspark Golf Club on Monday 12th November 2007, where a capacity audience paid tribute to the succesful individuals and teams in Ayrshire Junior Golf during 2007.Allan Thomson (Ayr Belleisle), a former player in The League, was Guest of Honour as the Ayrshire Junior Golf League marked Allans record breaking achievement during 2007, when he secured an unequalled 7th medal in the Scottish Amateur Championship, at Prestwick in August.
The premier individual award of the night, the Macrobert Thistle Junior Golfer Of The Year trophy, was once again presented by former Chairman of the National Playing Fields Association, David Reynolds.
The 2007 recipient was Scottish Boys Cap, Michael Stewart (Troon Welbeck) - pictured above with David Reynolds - who represented Scotalnd in championships across the globe throughout the year, whilst also reaching the semi final of the Scottish Boys Championship and losing the Scottish Boys Strokeplay in a play off.
Michael's season culminated in selection for the GB & I team who beat the Continent of Europe in the Jaques Leglise Trophy, where Michael secured the winning point.

EUROPEAN SENIORS TOUR - Drummond finishes rookie season in 6th place
As the European Seniors Tour concluded this week, with the Seniors Tour Championship for the Kingdom Of Bahrain Trophy being played at The Buckinghamshire Golf Club, Prestwick golfer Ross Drummond secured sixth place in the Seniors Order Of Merit in his rookie season on the tour.
One under par for the three rounds in the closing event gave Drummond a share of 16th place with Lyuis Carbonetti (Argentina) and consolodated his overall sixth position in the seasons rankings.
The final tournament was won by Constantion Rocca (Italy) whose win assured him of the award for the best rookie on tour for 2007, edging Drummond into second place.
AYRSHIRE GOLF ASSOCIATION - Youths defeat Renfrewshire in final West League match whilst A team are defeated
Tha Ayrshire youth team finished the West League season on a high with a 7 - 3 win over Renfrewshire at Brunston Castle on Saturday 10 November which may leave the Ayrshire youth team as winners of the West League for 2007, the final placings still to be confirmed.

AYRSHIRE GOLF ASSOCIATION - Annual General Meeting hears of boys success
Around 40 representatives of clubs throughout the county attented the AQnnual General Meeting of the Ayrshire Golf Association, held at Ballochmyle Golf Club on Wednesday 24th October 2007.
In his report, President Ricky Magee (Caprington) thanked the clubs who had hosted county events throughout the 2006 - 2007 season and reported on the various county competitions and the successes enjoyed by individuals and teams.
In particular, President Magee paid tribute to the boys team of Euan Brown, David Currie, Cameron Gray & Michael Stewart who won the Scottish Area Boys Team Championship at Moray, with Cameron Gray also winning the Niagra Cup for the best individual score of the competition.
Michael Stewart also had a notable performance in the Scottish Boys Strokeplay at Cardrona, losing the title in a play off.
Also on a national level, President Magee paid tribute to the efforts of Allan Thomson (Ayr Belleisle) and Paul Moultrie (Troon Portland) who reached the semi finals of the Scottish Amateur Championship at Prestwick and the British Mid Amateur Championship at Alwoodley in Leeds respectively.
President Magee also reported that the Ayrshire Seniors competition would be reintroduced in 2008, with a new handicap trophy, to be called the Sandy Provan Trophy, being played for. The first playing of the event will be at Kilmarnock (Barassie) in July 2008.
Also under review, by a sub committee led by Vice President Alasdair Malcolm (Prestwick St. Cuthbert) is the Doc Thom Ayrshire Order Of Merit competition, details of which will be circulated to clubs over the winter months.
President Magee also alluded to the SGU governance review and the Ayrshire Golf Association Executive's intention to carry out a similar review of the county association's governance and constitution.
The financial report was presented, and various explainations given, by Secretary/Treasurer Leslie Crawford (Kilmarnock Barassie).
Reports followed on various aspects of the work of the Ayrshire Golf Association from the respective Convenors, Milton Murray (Coaching), Allan Muir (Course Rating) & John Nordbo (Ayrshire Junior Golf League).
On the election of officials and Executive members, Leslie Crawford was returned unopposed as Secretary/ Treasurer and Sandy Provan (Kilmarnock Barassie), Barclay Ross (Ballochmyle) and Iain Harvey (Kilmarnock Barassie) were all returned as Executive members. Iain harvey was also re elected as the representative to the SGU.
In his report on the SGU, Iain Harvey reported on a busy year in Ayrshire with the county hosting the European Team Championships (Western Gailes), the under 14/Under 16 Strokeplay (Brunston Castle), the Scottish Amateur Championship (Prestwick) and the Under 16 international with England (Prestwick St. Nicholas).
Iain also reported on a number of ongoing projects. Coaching involving player pathways including the Clubgolf initiative, development of the GolfCentral website, changes to the handicapping system in 2008, including the production of a new CONGU handbook on the handicapping scheme were all touched on in his report.
Although coming under the auspices of the R & A, Iain also made mention of changes to The Rules Of Golf from January 2008.
The meeting closed with those present being informed that the per capita subscription to the SGU for 2008 would be £ 6.70 and on a vote it was agreed that the per capita subscription to the Ayrshire Golf Association would increase by 10 pence to £ 1.85.

The meeting closed with those present being informed that the per capita subscription to the SGU for 2008 would be £ 6.70 and on a vote it was agreed that the per capita subscription to the Ayrshire Golf Association would increase by 10 pence to £ 1.85.

AYRSHIRE GOLF ASSOCIATION - Senior team defeated whilst youths beat Glasgow
The Ayrshire senior team suffered a heavy defeat in their penultimate match in the 2007 West Of Scotland inter county league on Saturday when they went down by 7.5 - 2.5 to Glasgow at Haggs Castle.
Gary Bryden with, with an eagle - birdie finish, and Darren Mallinson were the only Ayrshire winners with John Shanks gaining the other half point for the team.
