SCOTTISH BOYS' AND GIRLS' CHAMPIONSHIPS - Eight Ayrshire boys through to matchplay stages at Edzell


Eight of the nine participants from Ayrshire successfully qualified for the matchplay stages of the 2022 Scottish Boys' Championship, being held at Edzell Golf Club from the 13th to the 17th of July.

The two qualifying rounds were held on Wednesday the 13th and Thursday the 14th of July, where the field was reduced from 102 entrants to the 64 players who will bid for the national title in six rounds of matchplay on Friday the 15th through to Sunday the 17th of July.

Harry Bent (Gullane) and Ross Laird (Glenbervie) led the qualifying with one over par totals of 143 for 36 holes.

The highest places Ayrshire players in qualifying were Ruben Lindsay (Turnberry), the winner of the title in 2019, and Connor Wills (Royal Troon) with six over par totals of 148, following rounds of 75 & 73.

Campbell Kerr (Loudoun) was a shot further back on 7 over par (149) with rounds of 77 & 72.

Other Ayrshire qualifiers included Harvey Broadfoot (Troon Welbeck) on 152 (+10) 74/78, Jack Ramsay (Kilmarnock Barassie) on 153 (+11) 80/73, Dylan Cairns (Royal Troon) on 154 (+12) 81/73, Max Barclay (Ayr Belleisle) on 155 (+13) 77/78 and Scott Newman (Royal Troon) who was one of three players from five who qualified on the cut limit of 159 (+17), following rounds of 84 & 75.

The only Ayrshire player to miss out on the matchplay stages was Jack Broadfoot (Troon Welbeck), with a total of 163 (+21) following rounds of 77 & 86.

The matchplay commences of Friday morning, the 15th of July, with the ties involving Ayrshire players being:

Alex Turlik (Muckhart) Vs. Jack Ramsay (Kilmarnock Barassie)
Koby Buchan (Cruden Bay) Vs. Dylan Cairns (Royal Troon)
Ruben Lindsay (Turnberry) Vs. Jamie McQuillan (Dullatur)
Niall Shiels Donegan (The Meadows) Vs. Scott Newman (Royal Troon)
Scott Spark (Newmachar) Vs. harvey broadfoot (Troon Welbeck)
Fraser Laird (Kemnay) Vs. Max Barclay (Ayr Belleisle)
Christopher Clark (Bearsden) Vs. Connor Wills (Royal Troon)
Campbell Kerr (Loudoun) Vs. Joe MacPherson (Gullane)

The Scottish Girls' Championship also takes place this week, at Auchterarder Golf Club, where five Ayrshire girls are in the field for the two qualifying rounds, which take place on Friday the 15th of July.
