BILL TINSLEY - Ayrshire junior golf stalwart passes away

Junior golf in Ayrshire lost one of its greatest supporters this week, with the passing, on Tuesday 13th February, of Ardeer's Bill Tinsley.

Bill, who was in his 95th year, was a native of Stoke On Trent and took up golf at Ardeer when he moved to the area with his employment as a process supervisor at the nearby I.C.I. plant.

Bill first became involved in The Ayrshire Junior Golf League when Ardeer joined The league in 1974, and he served for many years as junior convener of his home club.

Bill also served as Ayrshire Junior Golf League chairman in 1977 and became the first, and to date only, person to fill the post twice when he took the chairmanship again in 1993.

In recognition of his services to The Ayrshire Junior Golf League, Bill was awarded Honorary Membership of The League in 1992, and soon afterwards his home club conferred a similar honour on him.

Bill still regularly attended the annual Ayrshire Junior Golf League dinner, until failing health prevented him from doing so in the last few years.

Bill Tinsley was  a mannerly gentleman who will be missed by his many friends and golfing acquaintances throughout Ayrshire.

The Association extend sincere condolences to Bill's family and friends at this sad time.

Funeral arrangements will be advised when known.
