AYRSHIRE CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS - Second title for Paul Moultire

2015 Champion Paul Moultrie
with Royal Troon Captain Martin Cheyne
& AGA President \James McMurdo
Paul Moultrie (Royal Troon) took the Ayrshire Champion Of Champions title for the second time on Friday 14th August at Royal Troon, beating Stuart Robin (Prestwick St Cuthbert) in the final.

In winning the title, which he last won in 2008 as a member of the Troon Portland club, Moultrie became the first player from Royal Troon, who have hosted the semi finals and final of the event since the championship was inaugurated in 1976, ever to win the title.

Moultrie was never behind in the match, taking the first hole with a par four and extending his lead to two holes with a birdie three at the 379 yard third hole.

A birdie four at the fourth hole from Moultrie was not even sufficient to hold his advantage as Robin reduced the deficit to one with an eagle three and then squared the match with a birdie three at the seventh hole.

Moultrie however edged ahead at the turn with a birdie three at the ninth to take a one hole advantage into the inward half.

Moultrie's slim lead was quickly extended with wins at the tenth and eleventh holes, as Robin got into trouble, leaving Moultrie three holes ahead with seven to play.

Robin hit back again with a winning par four at the eleventh to reduce the deficit to two holes, but over the next three holes could make no further inroads into Moultrie's lead. With a two hole lead with only three holes remaining, Moultrie pressed home his advantage with a winning par five at the sixteenth hole for a 3 & 2 victory to take the Champion Of Champions title for 2015.

Ayrshire Golf Association President James McMurdo and Royal Troon Captain Martin Cheyne did the honours at the conclusion of play, presenting prizes to both finalists an handing the trophy over to the 2015 winner, Paul Moultrie.

Interested to know if that is a new trophy? Looks similar to one I won in 2000, but not quite the same. Thanks!

Same trophy Blair. A few years ago the winner returned the trophy with the silver golfer on the top missing, and replaced with a plastic one. Efforts to recover the original golf figure were unsuccessful and a couple of years ago the final was replaced with a replica 1930's mesh golf ball.
