AMALGAMATION PROPOSAL - Feedback sought on joint proposal to amalgamate national bodies

The revised proposal to amalgamate the Scottish Golf Union and Scottish ladies Golfing Association has been released for consultation and feedback is sought on the proposal.

Chairman of Scottish Golf Union Limited, Tom Craig, commented :-

I am delighted to present, for your consideration, the Amalgamation Consultation Proposal as developed by the Amalgamation Joint Working Group. This has been approved by the Boards of the SGU and SLGA for distribution to all interested parties.
> Amalgamation Consultation Proposal
> New Articles of Association for consultation
> Scottish Golf Ltd Regulations
I would like to express our thanks to all of the members of the Group for the very considerable time and effort they have invested on our behalf in developing the proposal to this stage.
The Consultation Proposal is just that – a proposal for consultation. We are seeking your views on this proposal as the basis for achieving amalgamation of SGU and SLGA. I cannot emphasis enough the importance of achieving amalgamation into a single governing body for the benefit of all Scottish golf clubs and golfers.
The Consultation Proposal will be sent to all affiliated clubs as well. The Consultation Proposal and related documents will also be posted on the SGU website www.scottishgolf.org/who-we-are/sguslga-amalgamation and so will become public. At the same time we will also make an announcement to the press that the proposal has been issued for consultation.
It is probable that some Areas may be contacted by the press for comments about the proposal. I would be greatly obliged, and the process will be greatly enhanced, if all Areas would restrict comments to the press and media to the process, i.e. that you have received a Consultation Proposal document and that you will be considering it in conjunction with your clubs prior to submitting comments to the Joint Working Group. Please do not make comment or criticism of the contents. We want any debate on content to be within the SGU and SLGA, not in the press as this would only damage the consultation process. I have asked Board members to follow this protocol too. Thank you in anticipation for your co-operation in this regard.
It is now vital that as many people as possible consider the proposal and provide their feedback. To assist with this within the SGU we will be staging consultation meetings in each Area, with both the Area and the clubs from that Area. I have already started the process to agree with each Area the timing for these meetings in May/June of this year.
In addition I plan to meet with representatives from all Areas collectively to discuss the proposals and hear all your views. I will be asking Ruth to identify a suitable date and venue for this.
I would ask you to consider the proposals in full and encourage everyone with an interest in the future of Scottish golf to do the same. Thereafter I very much look forward to receiving feedback from you so that the proposal can be further improved. The timeline set for consultation extends to 31 July, after which the Joint Working Group will consider all the feedback and revise the proposal as appropriate.
I would be happy to discuss any aspect of the above with you at any time.
Kind regards
Tom Craig
Chairman
Scottish Golf Union Limited
