The Ayrshire Under 18 Boys team made it two wins from two in the 2025 West of Scotland inter county league on Sunday the 15th of June at Irvine Golf Club, as they bid to defend the Wishart Trophy and league championship title, beating Glasgow by 6-2.
Starting out in wet conditions the Ayrshire side had an advantage from the beginning when Finlay Andrew’s opponent Darren Docherty called off late for the Glasgow team, putting Ayrshire 1-0 ahead from the start.
At the start of the match the Glasgow team started brightly, particularly in the four Under 16 ties where they led in three of the four early on.
In the lead tie Ollie Kane found himself five down after an opening salvo of birdies by his opponent, but by the fourteenth he had levelled the match and won the fifteenth to go one ahead. The match still had much to play out however, as Ollie lost the sixteenth and seventeenth before taking the final hole for a very important half match.
Harris Vennard added to the Ayrshire total with a 4&3 win in his tie while Alex Horton produced another impressive fightback, finishing with a par and a birdie at the closing holes to win both and secure another important half point.
In the fourth of the under 16 ties Ryan Steven found himself four down with four to play but rallied to take the tie to the penultimate green before losing by 3&1.
In the three remaining under 18 ties, the Ayrshire players stepped up in spectacular style, Lyle Vogwell and Mason Chisholm winning by 8&7 and 8&6 respectively with Quintin Dunlop adding a 3&2 win to give Ayrshire victory in the match by 6-6 overall.

Clydebank and District GC.
