AYRSHIRE LADIES COUNTY GOLF - Ayrshire team announced for West County Matches

The Ayrshire Ladies County Golf Association have announced their team for the forthcoming West Division Inter County matches which take place at Haggs Castle GC from  Monday 16 to Wednesday 18 June.

Featuring the Scotland internationalist and runner up in the recent national championship held at Prestwick GC, Connie Jaffrey, the team is :-

AYRSHIRE SCRATCH LEAGUES - Belleisle and Turnberry open with good wins

Ayr  Belleisle and Turnberry opened their title challenges in their respective Ayrshire Scratch leagues for 2014 with good home wins over their opponents.

In DIVISION 2, Belleisle hammered Caprington 6 - 0 in their opening fixture at the Ayr course. In the same division, Prestwick St Cuthbert started their challenge with a good 3 - 3 draw away to West Kilbride.

In DIVISION 3, Turnberry beat their visitors Prestwick St Nicholas by 4.5 - 1.5 in their opening fixture whilst New Cumnock had a narrow 3.5 - 2.5 victory when hosting Kilbirnie Place.

In DIVISION 4, Doon Valley are still looking for their first win of the season after going dow by 4 - 2 on their visit to play Troon St Meddans at Troon.

SCOTTISH WOMANS GOLF - Hazel McGarvie shines at Montrose

Hazel McGarvie (Troon ladies) was third equal overall in the prestigious Munross Trophy held at Montrose on Sunday 25th May.

The three handicapper finished just two strokes behind the winner Hannah McCook (Granton On Spey) after rounds of 78 and 70 for a 148 total.

Her efforts also gave her the first net prize in the competition on 142, just a shot ahead of Kirsten Brown (Strathaven)

NORDEA MASTERS - Barry Crawford is Course Manager at European Tour venue in Sweden

Former Ayrshire county champion Barry Crawfordis the course manager at the PGA National Golf Club near Malmo, Sweden where the European Tour's Nordea Masters is being played this week.

There are two 18-hole championship-class  courses at the venue - the Links and the Lakes. The latter is being used for this week's tournament.

Barry's mother Isabel was a Scotland international player in the early 1970s when she was Isabel Wylie and is now a member of the Scottish Ladies Golfing Association board of directors and a prominent figure in west of scotland girls' and women's golf.

Barry, a former Ayrshire county champion, still plays off +2 ,and was club champion at West Kilbride and Kilbirnie golf clubs.

He qualified from Elmwood College, Cupar and spent his apprenticeship at Prestwick Golf Club.
Barry has worked at Dundonald Links Golf Club, the Carrick on Loch Lomond, Bayonne on the banks of the Hudson River in New York,and Augusta, Georgia.

For the last six years Barry has worked on this new golf development in southern Sweden .The course is only four years old but very demanding but a good test of golf.

PAUL LAWRIE LADIES TARTAN TOUR - Entries for Dundonald fixture close this week.

Friday May 30th is the closing date for the next 36-hole event on the Paul Lawrie Golf Centre Ladies Tartan Tour at Dundonald Links Golf Club on June 8 and 9.
 
The tournament is open to any lady professional and to all female amateurs with a single-figure handicap.
 
There at 16 entries at the moment, including Laura Murray, winner of the £2,500 first prize in the Tour event at Murcar Links on May 8-9.

The entry fee is £75. Non PGA-professionals have to pay a £70 affiliation fee to the PGA in Scotland. For amateurs the affiliation fee is £40 which covers the remaining tournaments on the tour schedule.
 
Entries have to be made through the PGA in Scotland HQ at Gleneagles.
 
PGA professionals can enter as normal through the Bluegolf system. All other players, professional and amateur, should phone the PGA in Scotland office on 01764 661840
There is a guaranteed £6,000 prize fund with £2,500 to the winner, £1,250 to the runner-up and £750 to the player who finishes third. The top 10 and ties will receive prizemoney. 
 
Should an amateur finish in the top 10 she will earn the equivalent prize voucher value to what a professional would receive in that placing, except that the Rules of Amateur Status would limit any voucher to £500 in value.
 
Order of Merit points are also there to be won. The leading professional in the table after the Tour championship at Marriott Dalmahoy on September 10 and 11 will have her flights and hotel expenses paid for the 2014 Ladies European Tour Q School in Morocco.
