SCOTTISH SENIOR MEN'S OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP - Robert Jenkins leads Ayrshire challenge at Montrose.

The first round of the Scottish Senior Men's Open Championship, being played at Montrose Golf Course from the 18th to the 20th of June, saw Bob Jacobs from the United States lead the field after returning a score of 65 in the opening round, six under par.

The top scot in the 54 hole event after round one is John Laurie (Glasgow) who lies joint third with a four under par score of 67.

The Ayrshire challenge following the first round is led by Robert Jenkins (Royal Troon) who lies in joint fourteenth spot with a one under par score of 70, just a single shot ahead of Jim Shearer (West Kilbride) and Paul Moultrie (Royal Troon) who both carded one over par scores of 72.

Other scores from Ayrshire players were:-

78 (+7) - Andrew Lindsay (Ayr Dalmilling)

80 (+9) - Jim McCullagh (Kilmarnock Barassie)

83 (+12) - John McKean (Prestwick)

The second round is scheduled to take place on Thursday the 19th of June after which the top 60 and ties will play the final round on Friday the 20th of June.
