Matt Allen, Steven Stamper, Blair Morton, John Haggarty, Harvey Broadfoot, Scott Brown
John Haggarty (Loudoun) and Matt Allen (Western Gailes) led the Ayrshire team off in the morning foursomes against Craig Davidson (Longniddry) & Scott McAndless (Bathgate). Despite falling behind by three holes after three, the Ayrshire pair fought back to lead by two holes with two to play. To the credit of the hosts however, the Lothians pairing finished with successive birdies to secure a half point in atied match.
Steven Stamper (Turnberry) and Harvey Broadfoot (Royal Troon) were out second for Ayrshire against Jamie Duguid (Dunbar) & Jake Edgcombe (Baberton). Despite going three down after 11 holes, the Ayrshire pair took three successive holes from the 12th to square the match before going on to win the final hole for a single hole victory.
The anchor foursomes tie featured Blair Morton (Royal Troon) and Scott Brown (Prestwick St Cuthbert) against Marc Reid (Craigielaw) and Kenny Glen (Craigielaw). After winning the first hole when their opponents missed a short putt, the Ayrshire pairing werfe never behind in their match, running out eventual winners by 2&1 to give Ayrshire a 2.5 - 0.5 lead from the morning foursomes going into the six afternoon singles.
Matt Allen lead the Ayrshire team in the afternoon against Jamie Duguid and a controlled performance saw Matt secure a further point for Ayrshire with a 3&2 win.
In the second singles tie John Haggarty was up against Craig Davidson. Despite leading for much of the match, successive lost holes at the 14th and 15th meant an eventual 2&1 defeat for John.
Third out for Ayrshire was Harvey Broadfoot who faced Marc Reid. In a tie in which he was always in control, Harvey ran out an eventual 3&1 winner to secure a second singles win for Ayrshire and ensure at least a draw in the overall match.
Ayrshire needed just half a point from the remaining three singles ties to secure an overall match win, but as the ties edged towards the latter stages all three Ayrshire players found themselves trailing their respective opponents.
Blair Morton had a very tough task in the afternoon singles against 2021 Scottish Amateur Champion Angus Carrick (Craigielaw), who was drafted into the singles in place of Kenny Glen, but despite being behind for the majority of the match Blair took the tie to the eighteen and despite being one behind, still had a chance to win the final hole to secure a half point but saw his putt to win the last hole slide agonisingly past the hole to give Angus carrick a one hole win.
Steven Stamper was up against Scott McAndless in the penultimate tie and despite a close match it was McAndless that eventually prevailed by 2&1.
In the anchor tie Scott Brown faced Jake Edgcombe who produced an exceptional display of putting throughout the match to lead Scott by a single hole after the twelfth. Scott squared the match at the thirteenth and went on to lead the match playing the sixteenth. Having hit his second to a few feet while his opponent faced a putt the length of the green for a par four, Scott looked in total command of the hole but again Jake produced an exceptional putt, holing for an unlikely par four to putt real pressure onto Scott. Despite his opponent's exceptional putt, Scott drew on all his experience to hole his birdie putt to take a two hole lead to the seventeenth tee, ensuring the crucial half point that Ayrshire needed for an overall match win. In the event Scott halved the seventeenth for a 2&1 win to give Ayrshire a 5.5 - 3.5 match win.
