THE NORTHERN OPEN - Ayrshire players success in qualifying event

A number of Ayrshire professionals were successful in gaining a place in the 2010 Northern Open, at the qualifying event which took place on Monday 30th August at Dunblane New GC.

Top of the group oflocal qualifiers was Andrew Fullen (Largs) who bettered the qualifying score by four shots with his return of 72.

Close behind on 73 was David Fleming (Prestwick) with Ian Colquhoun (Dundonald Links) and Martin Shaw (Kilmarnock Barassie) one shot further back on 74.

Michael Sweenie (Turnberry) just missed out, by virtue of a card play off, on the cut mark of 76.

Ayrshire interest in The Northern Open also extends to two other successful qualifiers, former Scottish Boys Champion and Kilmarnock (Barassie) golfer Alan Reid (West Lothian) returning a score of 71 to qualify along with former Caprington player John Robertson (Glasgow) who returned a 74 to book his place in the championship.

The Northern Open will be held this year at Meldrum House GC from 21st to 23rd of September.
