WEST OF SCOTLAND JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP & BOYS' MATCHPLAY - Jake Hendry leads Ayrshire challenge at Cochrane Castle

Jake Hendry (West Kilbride) led the Ayrshire challenge at the West of Scotland Junior Strokeplay Championship and the West of Scotland Boys' Matchplay Championship, which were hosted by Renfrewshire recently at Cochrane Castle Golf Club.

The strokeplay championship took place on Sunday the 13th of July and was won by Gregor Campbell (Glasgow) with a scratch score of 70.

Jake Hendry (West Kilbride) was the best of the Ayrshire entrants, finishing in sixth place with a score of 75.

The West of Scotland Boys' matchplay followed on from the strokeplay championship, with two Ayrshire players in the eight players who contested the first round matches on Tuesday the 22nd of July.


Matchplay Winner
Zakari McInnes

Jake Hendry (West Kilbride) won his opening match against Struan Brooksbank (Kilmacolm) at the first extra hole while Ryan Steven lost out in the opening round by 7&5 to the eventual winner of the championship, Zakari McInnes (Lanark)


The semi finals and final took place on Friday the 25th of July and Jake hendry won his semi final against the strokeplay championship winner Gregor Campbell (Glasgow) by 2&1 to book his place in the final.


The final between Jake Hendry and Zakari McInnes was a close affari with the lead changing several times. 


With three holes to play Jake held a single hole lead but Zakari won the sixteenth to level the match and then took the lead with a birdie two at the seventeenth. At the final hole Zakari holed from four feet for his par to take the title with a one hole victory.
