Scott McCahill (Maybole) - pictured right - won the Hillhouse Cup in extremely testing conditions at Royal Troon on Sunday 22nd May.
A very strong wind veering round from the South early on to straight Westerly as the day progressed, made the inward nine very difficult, with the new back tee on 15 proved very testing. Some of the competitors who played in the later games were unable to reach the fairway with their drives, although the early starters did not have this as an issue.
In the event, McCahill was the only player who broke 80 on the day, reflecting the difficult conditions, with Ayrshire Matchplay Champion Michael Smyth, of the host club, and Ayrshire Strokeplay Champion jamie Mackay of Kilmarnock Barassie sharing the runners up spot, three strokes adrift of the winner on 81.
The CSS for the competition, not surprisingly, was 78 (reduction only).
