Ayrshire's last remaining player in the 2011 Scottish Amateur Championship, being played at Western Gailes this week, bowed out in the last 16 on Thursday evening.Scott Brown (Turnberry) faced number two seed and Scotland internationalist James Byrne (Banchory) for a place in the quarter finals but was never ahead in his match as he exited the tournament with a 3 & 1 defeat.
Brown was two down at the turn against byrne but reduced the defecit to one hole with a birdie three at the 12th, only to see the defecit restored to two holes at the thirteenth courtesy of a birdie two from Byrne.
The players matched each other in par over the remaining holes until Brown could only manage a bogey five at the seventeenth hole to give byrne a 3 & 1 win.
