WEST OF SCOTLAND UNDER 18 LEAGUE - Ayrshire remain unbeaten after match four

Ayrshire remain unbeaten after four matches of their five match series in the 2011 West Of Scotland Inter County Under 18 League for the Wishart Trophy, after a solid win against their visitors Lanarkshire at Skelmorlie on Sunday 21st August.

With two wins and a draw so far this season, a win in their penultimate match was essential to ensure that Ayrshire kept their momentum for their final game in the series, against Dumbartonshire, at Lenzie in September.

Despite a run of indifferent results this year, the visiting Lanarkshire side were a dangerous prospect, boasting two Scotland internationalists in their squad.

New Ayrshire Boys Champion Callum Beveridge faced one of the internationalists, Craig Ross, and was always up against it in his tie, eventually losing by 5 & 4.

Similarly, Greg Vernon had a difficult task against the other internationalist, Eamon Bradley, and although he started poorly, Vernon steadied his form but was unable to fully recover and went down by 4 & 3.

In the other under 18 ties, Jack McCluskey forged a three hole lead after 12 to set up a 3 & 2 win over Jonny Reid whilst Rory McKenzie never looked back from a two hole lead after five, running out a comfortable winner against Dominic Dougan by 7 & 6.

Ayrshire really took control of the match in the under 16 ties, taking 3.5 from a possible 4 points to secure a win.

Louis Murray showed all his fighting spirit in his tie against David Clelland, clawing his way back from three down during the match to secure a vital half match.

Darren McCutcheon, playing his first representative match for his county, was alwas in control in his tie against Callum Connacher in securing a 4 & 3 win.

Jack Thomas opened impressively, with two under par figures after four holes, on his way to a 6 & 5 win over Matthew Brennan.

Blair Gavin secure a 5.5 - 2.5 win overall with his win over Jay Haine. Two ahead after twelve holes, Gavin was one ahead on the final tee and played a good recovery from the back of the final green to secure a two hole win.
