AYRSHIRE JUNIOR GOLF LEAGUE - Latest results

The 2011 Ayrshire Junior Golf League competitions are rapidly heading towards the final stages, with matches due to be completed over the next couple of weeks in preparation for the finals of all competitions which are scheduled to take place at Loudoun Gowf Club in September.

In the CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS TROPHY, Euan Walker (Kilmarnock Barassie) is through to the final after a 6 & 4 win away from home against Alan Watson (Ballochmyle) in the semi final. Euan now awaits the winner of the tie between Ross Hunter (West Kilbride) and 2010 Ayrshire Boys Matchplay Champion David Wilson.

In the UNDER 16 KNOCKOUT TROPHY, Kilmarnock (Barassie) are through to the final after beating their visitors Ayr Belleisle by 3.5 - 0.5 in their semi final.

In the final of the competition the Kilmarnock (Barassie) team will play either Prestwick St Nicholas or Ardeer.

In the LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP, Annanhill hold a 4.5 - 1.5 lead over Ayr Belleisle after the home leg of their semi final match, with the return to come.

Irvine (Bogside) face defending champions Kilmarnock (Barassie) in the other semi final.

In the WALLACE THORNTON TROPHY competition, 2010 runners up Kilmarnock (Barassie) beat rivals Irvine by 3.5 - 0.5 in their latest match to maintain their 100% record and take a lead in Section 1, with only one match to play. With Irvine having completed their matches with a 3.5 - 0.5 win at Ayr Belleisle and a 4 - 0 home win over Largs, and Belleisle unable to catch the leaders despite being given a walkover in their scheduled match at Largs, Kilmarnock (Barassie) only nead to avoid a heavy defeat in their final match at Belleisle to secure their second successive appearance in the final.

Ayr Belleisle - played 3 - match difference + 2 - points 8

Section 2, in which matches only started recently, is proving very close with Annanhill fighting it out with defending champions Troon Welbeck for a place in the final.

Welbeck opened with two home wins, both by 3 - 1, against Annanhill and Prestwick St Cuthbert, and have two away matches remaining at West Kilbride and Ardeer.

Annanhill also recorded two home wins, by 3 - 1 against Prestwick St Cuthbert and 3.5 - 0.5 against West Kilbride, and added a 2.5 - 1.5 away win at Ardeer.

In other matches played so far, Prestwick St Cuthbert won by 3.5 - 0.5 at home to West Kilbride and were awarded a walkover by Ardeer in theor other home fixture, whilst West Kilbride had a home win over Ardeer by 3.5 - 0.5
