Michael Stewart (Troon Welbeck) - pictured - qualified for the matchplay stages of the Amateur Championship, for the second successive year, on Tuesday when he returned a one over par 72 at Hesketh for a two round total of 1 over par 144.Stewart qualified in 17th place of the 65 players through to contend te matchplay stages over the Hillside course.
In the second round of matchplay on Wednesday, Stewart faces Mark Young (Longridge).
Ayrshire's other representative in the championship, Jack McDonald (Kilmarnock Barassie) bowed out with a four over par 75 at hesketh which left him 11 over par on 154 for the championship.
