An exibition by South Ayrshire Council, in conjunction with Ayrshire Archives, is well worth a visit for anyone interested in golf history and in particular the impact of The Open Golf Championship in Ayrshire.
The exibition is being held from 1st June to 31st August in the Maclaurin Galleries, Rozelle park, Ayr and charts the history of golf in Scotland, and in particular the Open Championship.
Prestwick, Royal Troon, Turnberry and Troon ladies' golf clubs feature prominently in the exibition which also gives an opportunity to see many historic golf clubs and golf related items, including a replica of both the Open Championship Claret Jug and the Open Championship Belt.
The exibition also gives Ayrshire golfers the opportunity to see the magnificent Scottish Area Team Championship Trophy won by Ayrshire in 2008, which will be on display throughout the exibition.
In addition to the historic and interesting exibits, there is an interactive area where golfers can try their hand on a computerised practice net where they can play a few holes or fine tune their ball striking skill with the aid of modern technology.
This exibition, to which admission is free, is a must see for any golf enthusiast in the area.
Another attraction if you intend to visit the exibition is the excellent cafe within Rozelle House where you can treat yourself to coffee, tea, home baking or even a light lunch !!
This is one not to be missed.
