SGU JUNIOR TOUR - McDonald storms to second Junior Tour win at Barassie

Jack McDonald (Kilmarnock Barassie) celebrated his first Scottish representative honours in style on Sunday 14th June with a win over his home course in the fifth and final SGU Junior Tour event of the season.

Earlier in the week McDonald, who won the SGU Junior Tour event at North Berwick on his debut in the series earlier this year, was announced as one of six Scottish boys selected by the SGU to take part in the English Boys' Open Amateur Strokeplay Championship for the McGregor Trophy at Radcliffe On Trent Golf Club from 30th June to 2nd July.

In Sunday's final SGU Junior Tour event of the season, McDonald led from the front, returning a four under par 68 in the morning to be joint leader with Mark Thomson (Monifieth), going into the afternoon round.

McDonald maintained his excellent form in the afternoon, a three under par 69 giving him a total of seven under par 137, and a five stroke victory over the field.

Scott Gibson (Southerness) with rounds of 74 and 68 was the closest challenger to McDonald on 142.

The other Ayrshire player in the field, Marc Smith (Troon Welbeck) finished joint 22nd on 12 over par 156.
