SGU JUNIOR TOUR - Stewart wins 2008 opener

Michael Stewart (Troon Welbeck) stormed to victory in the first of the five SGU Junior Tour events on Sunday 30 March 2008 with an astounding 8 shot victory at Kingsbarns.

In his morning round, an eagle at the fifth when he holed a 103 yard shot with a wedge set Michael on his way and two further birdies saw Stewart take the lead with a 3 under par 69, despite a minor slip with a bogey at the last hole.

Michael continued his fine form into the afternoon round, with 6 birdies in a round of 67 giving him a total of 136, 8 under par.

Former Scottish U16 Stroke Play champion Sam McLaren (King James VI) finished in second place, on level par 144 and Stuart Ballingall (Dunston Hall) was 3rd on 146.

The only other Ayrshire boy in the field was Kyle Smith (Kilmarnock Barassie) who performed well and finished tied fourth on 147, three over par.

Now both Michael Stewart and Kyle Smith turn their attention to the forthcoming Scottish Boys Championship at Southerness next week.
