DOC THOM AYRSHIRE ORDER OF MERIT - number of counting events increased to 15 for 2008.

The Ayrshire Order Of merit, for the Doc Thom Salver, has undergone a review which has resulted in the number of counting events being increased to 15 for 2008.

The additional counting competition include the 6 previous counting events, along with additi0onal national competitions an local club open events.

Points will be awarded for the best placed in each of the counting events, which will be graded according to the level and format of competition.

As in previous years, the opening counting competition will be the Ayrshire Strokeplay and the last counting event will again be the prestigeous Arrol Cup at Prestwick St. Nicholas.

The Order Of merit is open to any member of a club affiliated to The Ayrshire Golf Association. No entry fee is involved and players can play in as many or as few of the events as they wish, as long as they meet the criteria for the competition concerned.

The counting events for 2008 are :-

20 April - Ayrshire Strokeplay (Prestwick)

5-8 May - Ayrshire Matchplay (Western Gailes)
25 May - The Hillhouse Cup (Royal Troon)
30 May - 1 June - The Scottish Strokeplay Championship (The Dukes, St. Andrews)

1 June - The Belleisle Cup (Ayr Belleisle)
7 June - The Loudoun Open (Loudoun Gowf)
7 June - Ayr Seafield Open (Ayr Seafield)
14 June - Ballochmyle Open (Ballochmyle)
16-21 June - The Amateur Championship (Turnberry)
21 June - The McGilchrist Cup (Ardeer)

28 July - 2 August - The Scottish Amateur Championship (Carnoustie)

24 August - Viking Krus (Largs)
31 August - Welbeck Links (Troon Municipal)

6 September - Largs & Millport Trophy (Largs Routenburn)
20 September - Arrol Cup (Prestwick St. Nicholas)

The 15 events have been categorised as follows :-

CATEGORY A - Scottish Strokeplay Championship
CATEGORY B - Scottish Amateur Championship, The Amateur Championship
CATEGORY C - The Ayrshire Strokeplay, The Belleisle Cup, The Viking Krus, The Welbeck Links & The Arrol Cup.
CATEGORY D - The Hillhouse Cup, The McGilchrist Cup, The Loudoun Open, Ayr Seafield Open, Largs & Millport Trophy & Ballochmyle Open.
CATEGORY E - Ayrshire Matchplay Championship

Points will be awarded as follows :-

CATEGORY A - (1) 250 (2) 175 (3) 120 (4) 75 (5) 50 (6) 35 (7) 20 (8) 10 (9) 5
CATEGORY B - Winner 250, Runner Up 175, Semi Finalists 100, Quarter Finalists 50
CATEGORY C - (1) 150 (2) 100 (3) 75 (4) 50 (5) 35 (6) 20 (7) 10
CATEGORY D - (1) 100 (2) 75 (3) 50 (4) 35 (5) 20 (6) 10 (7) 5
CATEGORY E - Winner 75, Runner Up 50, Semi Finalists 35

In the event of two players being tied for any placings, the points for the relevant placings will be equally shared.
