JUNIOR GOLF - Jack Broun and Rachel Foster are 2017 Ayrshire County Champions

The 2017 Ayrshire Boys Championship and Ayrshire Girls Championship were both held at Largs Golf Club on Thursday 3rd August, with Jack Broun (Ayr Belleisle) and Rachel Foster (Turnberry) taking their respective titles.

For the first time, girls and boys events in the county were held at the same venue on the same day.

In the Girls Championship, a scratch 82 gave Rachel Foster the title ahead of Alison Malcolm (Prestwick St Cuthbert) to become the first Ayrshire Girls County Champion. Rachel will be presented with the new trophy at the forthcoming Ayrshire Ladies' County Golf Association AGM.

Alison Malcolm retained the handicap award, The St Nicholas Trophy, which was competed for in conjunction with the new championship competition, with a nett 75.

In the Boys Championship, Jack Broun trailed Ewan Milligan (Kilmarnock Barassie) by a single shot with his opening round of 75, but a second round 72 gave him a total of 147, 7 over par, which was good enough to retain the championship trophy with a two stroke margin over Ruben Lindsay (Ayr Belleisle). Lindsay had an indifferent morning round, but fought back with a best of the day round of 68, two under par, for a total of 149 and second place.

The best nett return of the day was posted by 12 handicapper Fraser Wallace  (Kilmarnock Barassie) with nett rounds of  70 and 65 for a 135 total.

At the conclusion of each competition, prizes and trophies were presented to the succesful players by Ayrshire Golf Association Vice President John Watt.
