SCOTTISH MEN'S AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP - Malcolm Pennycott carries Ayrshire interest into last sixteen.

Malcolm Pennycott (Royal Burgess) carries Ayrshire interest into the last sixteen of the 2025 Scottish Men's Amateur Championship after the first two knockout rounds were completed on Thursday the 31st of July.

Malcolm, who represented Ayrshire at boys, youths and senior level when he played out of Whiting Bay Golf Club, qualified for the matchplay stages in 23rd place and on Thursday morning defeated the 42nd qualifier Alexander Yuill (Gullane) by 3 & 2 to set up an afternoon match against 10th qualifier Archie Cook (Gullane). In an extremely tight encounter it was malcolm who progressed to the last sixteen with a victory at the first extra hole after the players were tied over the regulation 18 holes.

On Friday morning, the 1st of August, Malcolm will face the 58th qualifier Mark Thomson (Kintore) for a place in Friday afternoon's quarter finals.

The two Irvine GC players who qualified for the matchplay both lost their opening ties on Thursday morning, John Shanks losing by 5&3 to George Cannon (Glenbervie) and Daniel Forbes going down by 5&4 to Scott Spark (Newmacher)
