The first two 2025 Ayrshire Junior Golf League competition finals took place at Ballochmyle Gc on Sunday the 3rd of August, with Turnberry and Irvine emerging as the winners.
The final of the scratch team knockout competition for The Wallace Thornton Trophy brought Turnberry and West Kilbride together.
Euan Forrest beat Lyle Vogwell by 4&3 to put the first point on the board for Turnberry but a 2&1 win by Jake Hendry over Gregor hay squared the match at 1-1.
A 4&3 win in the third tie for Quintin Dunlop over Jack Edminston put Turnberry ahead again by 2-1 and when the final tie between Findlay Andrew and James McNeillie finished all square, Turnberry were declared winners with a 2.5 - 1.5 match score overall.
The Under 16 Knockout Trophy competition final featured Irvine and Kilmarnock Barassie.
Giving shots in three of the four ties, the Irvine team won the first two ties in a very tight match, Mason Chisholm beating Lucas Farquhar by 3&2 and orla Moran beating Adam Cunningham by 3&1.
The third tie went in favour of Kilmarnock Barassie when Stefi Rogerson beat Joe Wilson by 4&3, and when Marley Doherty beat Noah Dickson by 2 holes, the match score finished 2-2, and with the teams unable to be seperated the first tie went out again over sudden death extra holes to decide the destination of the trophy.
Mason Chisholm and Lucas Farquhar were the players involved in the play off and when the first hole was halved in pars, the players moved on to the second play off hole, where Lucas received a shot from Mason.
Lucas found the putting surface in three, nett two, while Mason found the front of the putting surface in two, some distance further from the hole than Lucas.
Putting first, mason rolled his putt up to within a foot of the hole, leaving Lucas with a putt from around 18 feet to win the play off. Despite hitting a good putt Lucas' ball remained above ground and ran a couple of feet past the hole. Lucas's return putt for a nett four hit the hole but spun out, and he sportingly conceded Mason's short putt for par to give irvine the trophy by the narrowest play off victory.
At the conclusion of the finals Ayrshire Junior Golf league Secretary gavin scott presented the trophies to the winning teams.
Two other Ayrshire Junior Golf League finals remain to be completed later in August.
