AYRSHIRE CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS - Round 2 matches completed

All the round 2 matches in the 2012 Ayrshire Champion Of Champions competition were completed last weekend, with 16 players now remaining in the competition.

In the second round ties completed last week, Andrew Cunning Jr (Muirkirk), Michael Smyth (Royal Troon) and Jim Anderson (Skelmorlie) progressed by virtuee of a walkover against Peter Bond (Irvine Ravenspark), Johnny O'Neill (North Beach) and Nicol Aud (Whiting Bay) respectively.

Robert Steele (Prestwick St Cuthbert), in his first appearance in the event, continued his successful progress with a 3& 2 home win over Brian Gray (Beith).

After defeating the holder in round 1, Nicholas Tindall (Tam O Shanter) gave a good account of himself in his second round tie against Euan Brown (Kilmarnock Barassie) before going out of the competition at the first extra hole to his host.

Scott Gilchrist (Loudoun) took a notable scalp in his home match in round 2, beating Gary Bryden (Girvan) by 4 & 3 to progress.

Gordon Boyle (Ayr Belleisle) was a comfortable 5 & 4 winner away from home agaisnt Alan Mulholland (Moorpark) to book his place in the last 16 whilst Steven McEwan (Caprington) had an even more emphatic win, by 6&5, over Barrie McDonnell (Fenwick)

The remaining three ties in the second round were all concluded on the final green with a one hole victory, Paul Giffney (Ardeer), Alan McNeil (Largs Routenburn) and Alan Poole (Prestwick St Nicholas) progressing at the expense of Alan Connery (Irvine), Iain McDonald (Largs) and Alan McLean (Kilbirnie Place) respectively.
