MORGAN HALL - Ayrshire golf community saddened by unexpected passing of county Past President

The golfing community in Ayrshire was shocked and saddened by the unexpected passing of Ayrshire Golf Association Past President Morgan Hall of West Kilbride Golf Club  in the early hours of Monday the 7th of April at the age of 76.

A quiet, gentle, and aunassuming person, who many in Ayrshire golfing circles and beyond had the good fortune to meet and in many cases consider a friend, Morgan was a long time member of the West Kilbride Golf Club, joining the club in 1985 and serving in many capacities in the intervening years, especially in the roll as junior convenor in which he excelled over several years. There were a number of junior members at West Kilbride during Morgan's tenure that succeeded in amateur golf and several went on to make their mark in the professional game. These included Graeme Fox, Laura Moffat, Prestwick Golf Club professional David Fleming and Morgan's own twin sons Ricky and Fraser who are currently the Direct of Golf at Trump Turnberry and long time professional at Helensburgh Golf Club respectively.

Morgan's service to the club culminated in him being elected Club Captain in 2005 & 2006, and his many years of service was very deservedly recognised by the club when he was elected an Honorary Member in 2007.

Morgan and his family subsequently presented a golf club with a silver engraved plaque attached to the club, which had been presented to one of the dignitaries who opened Seamill course in 1893, and which was gifted for display in the clubhouse, where it proudly remains today.

Morgan served on the Ayrshire Golf Association Executive from 1993 until 2006, assisting in many aspects of The Association's work over that period, with highlights undoubtedly including the first win in the Scottish Boys' Area Team Championship by an Ayrshire team, at Cowglen in 1998.

Morgan was elected President of The Ayrshire Golf Association from 2000 to 2002 and following his service as president he served the county further as Ayrshire's representative on the Scottish Golf Union council from 2003 to 2006.

Many people who were fortunate enough to meet and spend time with Morgan in golfing circles over the years will no doubt consider it an honour and privilege to have known him, and indeed consider him a friend, and the thoughts of all involved in The Association, past and present, are with Morgan's family and friends at this sad time, and sincere condolences are extended at this sad time.

The National Bard, Ayrshire's own Robert Burns, once penned a verse which in very many ways  reflects the passing of Morgan Hall;

An honest man here lies at rest,

As e’er God with His image blest:

The friend of man, the friend of truth;

The friend of age, and guide of youth:

Few hearts like his, with virtue warm’d,

Few heads with knowledge so inform’d:

If there’s another world, he lives in bliss;

If there is none, he made the best of this.

For those wishing to pay their final respects, the funeral will take place at the Clyde Coast and Garnock Valley Crematorium near Largs on Wednesday the 23rd of April 2025 at 12 Noon. Respecting Morgan's own wishes, the family have requested that there are no black ties at the service.
