In the final series of qualifying matches of the 2007 Scottish Area Team Championship, held on Sunday 23rd September, Ayrshire defeated the holders Renfrewshire by 6 - 3 at Kilmarnock (Barassie).
In the other match in the section, South Of Scotland defeated Lanarkshire by 5.5 - 3.5 to finish top of the qualifying section, and give them a place in the semi finals of the competition.
In the Ayrshire match, the three morning foursomes were all halved, leaving the match finely balanced at 1.5 - 1.5 going into the afternoon singles.
The afternoon proved to be a different prospect as Ayrshire won four and drew one of the six singles to ensure a win overall.
Arguably the most notable result of the afternoon was Steven McEwan's 6 & 5 win over past Amateiur Champion, Craig Watson, although Steven Moore's 2 hole win over Scottish Mid Amateur Champion Mark Clark was also a major boost for the Ayrshire side.
