AYRSHIRE CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS TROPHY - McLean Vs. Cairney in final

The final of the 2007 Ayrshire Champion Of Champions Trophy at Royal Troon on Friday 10th August will be between John Cairney (Irvine Ravenspark) and Alan McLean (Kilbirnie Place), after the two players won their respective semi finals at Royal Troon on Friday 3rd August.

In the first match, McLean beat Andrew Kent (Troon Welbeck) by 1 hole. The close match ended with a strange incident on the final hole when Kent's approach chip struck the end of a rake protruding from a greenside bunker, in mid air, and the ball came to rest in the bunker as a result. Kent was unable to get up and down from the bunker for his par and a four was good enough to give McLean the match by the narrowest of margins.

The other semi final was equally as close, with Cairney being all square with Billy Campbell (Ballochmyle) after 18 holes. In the gathering darkness, Cairney managed a par four at the first extra hole to win the hole and go through to the final.

The final next Friday has a scheduled start time of 5.00 p.m.
