Ayrshire Boys Champion Scott Newman (West Kilbride) added the Ayrshire Junior Champion of Champions title to his impressive 2024 record on Saturday the 31st of August when he beat Finlay Watt (West Kilbride) by a single hole in the final held at Prestwick St Nicholas GC.
Scott birdied the short par three second to take an early lead in the match and his lead was extended to three holes when Finlay three putted both the fourth and fifth holes.
finlay rallied quickly however, a birdie at the sixth and an excellent approach leaving a tap in at the seventh securing him both holes and reducing the defecit to one.
A long putt for birdie at the eighth gave Scott a two hole lead once more which he held to the turn when the ninth was halved in birdie threes.
The first three holes on the inward nine were halved before Finlay reduced the defecit to one again at the thirteenth with a winning par four.
After the fourteenth was halved in pars, finlay had an excellent birdie putt at the fifteenth to win the hole and tie the match for the first time since the first hole.
After finding a bush from the tee and taking a penalty drop, Finlay found himself one down again after sixteen when Scott secured a regulation par four.
Once again Finlay showed his matchplay prowess, finding the green with a three wood at the seventeenth and despite narrowly missing his putt for an eagle two, his birdie three was good enough to win the hole and tie the match once more with just the eighteenth hole to play.
At the difficult par three final hole Scott took the title in dramatic fashion chipping in for a birdie two to win the hole, and the match, by the narrowest of margins.
