TOM LEHMAN JUNIOR OPEN - Sponsors bid to return championship to glory days

Golf South Ayrshire and tournament sponsors Buzzworks Holdings are working closely together in a bid to return the Troon Junior Open for the Tom Lehman Trophies to the glory days of the event which was once heralded as the biggest one day junior competition in the country.

As Buzzworks Director Kenny Blair explained,

" My company, Buzzworks Holdings from Prestwick, stepped in to save the Tom Lehman this year after we heard that the council was going to axe it.

Our aim is to try and bring back some of the former glory of the competition. I understand that at one time, not so long ago, there were over 500 entrants to the competition and this has dwindled for a variety of reasons to a low of 110 last year ".

With the support of Buzzworks Holdings, the 2012 competitiobn will have a prize fund totalling £2500.

The very reasonable entry fee of £5 entry will also include a goody bag and packed lunch for all competitors.

The full list of prizes for the event is almost cmplete and will be announced in the next  few days, on both facebook and Twitter.

In addition, to acknowledge the prestige of the competition and its revised administration this year, the Ayrshire Golf Association have included the event once more as a counting competition for the Ayrshire Junior Order Of Merit title, after an absence of a few years.

Over and above the competition itself, Buzzworks Holdings are also supporting ancilliary events including a demonstration by TaylorMade and a seperate putting competition which will be available to take part in during the day.

Considerable effort by sponsors and organisers has been put into the 2012 event to make it a success and it is hoped that the junior golfers of Ayrshire and beyond, both boys and girls, will respond and support the competition by submitting an entry.

Entry forms should be available through club secretaries but entries can also be submitted via the Golf South Ayrshire website.

The entry form can also be accessed via the appropriate link on the left of this page, under the 'Juniors Info' website.
