SCOTTISH BOYS CHAMPIONSHIP - Two more book second round places whilst McDonald & Smith march on to round 3

Two more Ayrshire boys booked their places in round two of the 2010 Scottish Boys Championship as heavy rain hit West Kilbride on Tuesday, whilst Jack McDonald (Kilmarnock Barassie) and Marc Smith (Troon Welbeck) marched on into round three with late afternoon victories in their matches.

Seven Ayrshire players began their bid for the championship on Tuesday morning, with first round matches.

In the third quarter of the draw Charlie Macneal (Troon Welbeck) had a 3 & 2 victory over Michael Bacigalupo (Longniddry) to set up a second round tie against James Reilly (East Kilbride) whilst Ross McSherry (Royal Troon) joined him in round two with a 7 & 6 win over Alistair Thomson (Elderslie). McSherry now faces Robbie Gauld (Cruden Bay) on Wednesday in the second round.

Tuesday morning saw two other Ayrshire players exit from the championship in the third quarter of the draw.

Euan Walker (Kilmarnock Barassie) was narrowly defeated by Euan Ferguson (Bearsden) at the first extra hole in their tie and Scott Johnston (Prestwick St. Cuthbert) crashed out by 6 & 5 against Ross Proctor (Forres).

In the fourth quarter of the darw, all Ayrshire interest ended in the first round, with all three local boys suffering a first round defeat.

Gregor Mackintosh (Girvan) lost by 6 & 5 to Cameron Farrell (Cardross) whilst reigning Ayrshire Boys matchplay Champion David Wilson (Troon Welbeck) went down by 3 & 1 to James Steven (Kirkhill).

Ayrshire's hopes in the last section of the draw were extinguished when Craig Corrigan (Troon Welbeck) lost by two holes to John Douglas (Thornton).

In the early second round matches, played on Tuesday afternoon, two of the seven local players succesfully through to round two were in action, with both players producing impressive performances to gain places in the third round.

Jack McDonald (Kilmarnock Barassie) head a 4 & 3 win over Euan McKay (Craigielaw) to set up a third round match against Bradley Neil (Blairgowrie) and he was quicly followed into round three by his Ayrshire team mate Marc Smith (Troon Welbeck) who recorded a 5 & 3 win over Kevin Mustard (Elgin) to set up a third round meeting with Anthony Blaney (Liberton).

All the remaining second round matches, and the complete third round programme are scheduled to be completed on Wednesday.
