AYRSHIRE JUNIOR GOLF LEAGUE - 2005 competitions get under way

The first round of the 2005 junior Champion Of Champions competition has been completed, as the competitions for the other Ayrshire Junior Golf League trophies are also under way.

In the CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS TROPHY, James Riley (St. Meddans) edged comfortably into the second stage with a 5 & 4 win over Mark Tait (Annanhill) at Troon.

Riley now faces a local derby against Michael Stewart (Troon Welbeck) in round 2.

Craig McLauchlin (Largs) progressed to round 2 after a walkover against the injured James Tarrant (St. Cuthbert), and now faces a trip to face scottish boys internationalist Steven McEwan (Kilmarnock Barassie).

Scott Ainsworth (Ardeer) is the first player through to the quarter finals. Playing in the third, and last, first round match, Ainsworth returned from his match against Ewan Ross (Beith) with a 5 & 4 victory, before playing host to John Coulter (Ravenspark) in round 2, and edging out the Irvine boy by one hole, to reach the last eight.

In the UNDER 16 KNOCKOUT TROPHY, Beith and Kilmarnock (Barassie) are through to the second round after 3 - 1 home wins over Belleisle and Kilbirnie respectively.

West Kilbride are the first team through to the quarter finals, winning through by 8 - 2 on the countback after a 2 - 2 draw with Annanhill.

In the LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP, the only ressult recorded so far is in Section A, where New Cumnock and Annanhill battled out a 3 - 3 draw at New Cumnock.
