AYRSHIRE GOLF ASSOCIATION - 2005 MATCH PLAY CHAMPIONSHIP - McLure remains on course for double triumph

David McLure (Troon Welbeck), the 2005 Strokeplay Champion remained on course to retain the match play title with victory in his first round match on Monday 2nd May. The Championship, being played at Prestwick St. Cuthbert throughout the week, concludes on Thursday night.

McLure, the top qualifier faced John Sloan (Doon Valley) and edged through by 2 & 1.

McLure now faces Alan Dickie (Kilmarnock Barassie) in the quarter finals, after Dickie narrowly defeated under 16 internationalist Michael Stewart (Troon Welbeck) on the final green.

Boys internationalist Steven McEwan (Kilmarnock Barassie) ended the local St. Cuthbert member, Steven Wallace, with a 3 & 2 win, and now faces Tom Fraser (Annanhill) who reached the last 8 with a 3 & 2 win over Jim Callaghan (Largs)

In the clash between the Kilmarnock Barassie boys internationalist clubmates, it was David Addison who progressed to the quarter finals, with a 5 & 4 win over Robert McKnight.

Addison faces local member, David Glass, in the last 8 after Glass won through by one hole over Brian Moore (Largs), after Moore lost the final hole due to a rules infringement.

Former AyrshireBoys Matchplay champion, Nicky Sinclair (Kilmarnock Barassie) scored a notable triumph in round 1, defeating Tommy McInally (Loudoun) by 3 & 2, and now faces Gavin Lawrie (Prestwick St. Nicholas) in the last 8, after he defeated Ian Brown (West Kilbride) by 4 & 3

The quarter final ties, to be played on Tuesday 3rd May are :-

1700 - David McLure (Welbeck) Vs. Alan Dickie (Barassie)

1710 - Steven McEwan (Barassie) Vs. Tom Fraser (Annanhill)

1720 - David Addison (Barassie) Vs. David Glass (St. Cuthbert)

1730 Nicky Sinclair (Barassie) Vs. Gavin Lawrie (St. Nicholas)
