AYRSHIRE GOLF ASSOCIATION - Addison wins 2005 Ayrshire Matchplay title

David Addison (Kilmarnock Barassie) claimed the 2005 Ayrshire Matchplay Championship title when he defeated clubmate Steven McEwan by 5 & 4 in the final at Prestwick St. Cuthbert on Thursday night (05.05.05).

There was little to chose between the two boys internationalists, who had both scored notable victories during the week, with Addison only having a slight theoretical advantage with a +2 handicap against McEwan's +1.

The match started solidly, the first two holes being halved in par, before Steven McEwan took the lead with a birdie 4 at the third.

McEwan's advantage was short lived however, David Addison chipping in at the 452 yard 4th hole for a winning birdie three, to square the match.

Pars at the 5th and 6th were sufficient for Addison to forge a two hole advantage, and birdies at the two par threes in the outward half, the 7th and 9th holes, saw Addison take a 4 hole lead at the turn.

When McEwan could only bogey the 11th hole, Addison's lead was extended to 5 holes, but McEwan immediately reduced the defecit with a birdie 3 at the 12th.

With the 13th hole being halved in par, holes were running out for McEwan, and a solid par at the 14th hole by Addison was sufficient to win the hole and take the match and the title by 5 & 4.
