THE AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP - Ruben Lindsay is the some Ayrshire survivor for the matchplay stages

is the sole Ayrshire survivor that has progressed to the matchplay stages of the 2021 Amateur Championship, being held this week at Nairn Golf Club.

A battling performance in round two of the strokeplay qualifying on Tuesday, the 15th of June, saw him finish with a level par 71 and a two round total of 147, 5 over par, to secure the 55th qualifying place, just one shot inside the cut.

In the first round of the matchplay on Wednesday,he faces England's Callan Barrow (Royal Lythan & St Annes), teeing off at 12 Noon.

Stuart Easton (Irvine) agonisingly missed qualifying for the matchplay  rounds by virtue of the countback after a one over par round of 72 on Tuesday left him right on the qualifying mark of 148, 6 over par, for 36 holes.

Alyx Murray (Prestwick St Nicholas) finished on 154, 12 over par, after a second round of 73, whilst Robbie Muir (Kilmarnock Barassie) was 3 shots further back on 157 after a second round score of 77.

Jack Broun (Turnberry) closed with a second successive round of  80 for an 18 over par total of 160.
