Jack McDonald (Kilmarnock Barassie) had a marathon match on Thursday morning in the Amateur Championship at Royal Troon before booking his place in the last 16.
In the last 32, McDonald faced Will McCurdy (USA), who only needed 11 holes to complete his match on Wednesday, but McCurdy made up for his early finish in the previous round by finishing all square with McDonald after 18 holes with the tie progressed to extra holes before finishing in Jack McDonald's favour at the 24th, the sixth extra hole.
With little rest between rounds, Jack McDonald now faces Irishman Rory McNamara of the Headford club, which lies to the North West of Dublin, on Thursday afternoon for a place in the quarter finals.
