Jack McDonald (Kilmarnock Barassie) the lone Ayrshire representative in the 2012 Amateur Championship, being staged at Royal Troon and Glasgow gailes Links this week, is safely through to the matchplay stages following the conclusion of the strokeplay qualifying rounds on Tuesday.Following his one over par 72 at Royal Troon on Monday, McDonald added a second round 71 at Glasgow Gailes for a one over par total of 143.
The cut fell at 145 (+3) with 78 players on that mark progressing to the matchplay rounds.
McDonald continues his quest for the title at 2.12 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon with a first round match against the winner of the preliminary tie between Michael Loppnow (South Africa) and Mathias Eggenberger (Switzerland).
