Kilmarnock Barassie's Stewart Russell and the Irvine duo of Jack Thomas & Greg Cathie are through to the third round of the Scottish Boys Championship at Murcar Links, whilst eight Ayrshire players remain in the competition after completion of all the first round ties on Tuesday.
In the remaining first round matches played on Tuesday, Blair Gavin (Kilmarnock Barassie) set up a second round clash with Cameron Buist (Dunblane New) after defeating Cameron Farrell (Cardross) by one hole in their opening round clash.
Christopher Murray (West Kilbride) bowed out at the opening stage, going down by 3 & 1 to Stuart Blair (Royal Musselburgh).
In the final first round match of the championship, Greg Telfer (Prestwick St Cuthbert) beat ian Hill (Muckart) by 2 & 1 and now plays Lewis Bain (Turnhouse) in the second round on Wednesday.
Telfer's result left eight Ayrshire players remaining in the championship after round one was completed.
Only three of the remaining Ayrshire players were scheduled to play their second round matches on Tuesday and all three won through to book their places in the third round.
Jack Thomas (Irvine) faced Kevin Prentice (Lanark) in round 2 and produced one of the results of the day with a 7 & 6 win to progress. Thomas will now play Stuart Russell (Kilmarnock Barassie) in an all Ayrshire third round tie after Russell beat Shaun McBride (Langlands) at the first extra hole in their second round clash.
Greg Cathie (Irvine) made it three from three on Tuesday afternoon with a 2 & 1 victory over Calum Aitken Kilmacolm), and now plays Dominic Dougan (Colville Park) in round 3.
The remaining second round matches and all third round matches are scheduled to be completed on Wednesday.
Callum Gorrie (Kilmarnock Barassie), David Wilson (Troon Welbeck), Euan Walker (Kilmarnock Barassie), Blair Gavin (Kilmarnock Barassie) and Greg Telfer (Prestwick St Cuthbert) will be in action on Wednesday morning to try to secure places in round three.
