The Ayrshire Under 18 Team got their 2008 campaign off to a disappointing start by losing 4.5 – 3.5 to Stirlingshire At Brunston Castle on Sunday 25th may, in their opening match in the West Of Scotland Inter County competition for The Wishart Trophy.
The visitors got off to a strong start in the difficult windy conditions by taking three of the first four matches. Victories by Jack McDonald and Kyle Smith eased Ayrshire back into contention with the last two matches on the course becoming the deciding factors. Adam Foley gained a vital point by staging a excellent fightback, overcoming a two hole deficit to win on the last green. In the deciding match, Colin Robinson just failed to hang onto his two hole lead with his opponent squaring the match at the last hole to gain the deciding half point for Stirlingshire.
