AYRSHIRE MATCHPLAY CHAMPIONSHIP - Hamilton and Cairney in final

The final of the 2008 Ayrshire Matchplay Championship will be between Craig Hamilton (Ballochmyle) - pictured right- and John Cairney (Irvine Ravenspark) - pictured left - after the semi finals were played at Western Gailes on Wednesday night, 7th May.

In the first semi final, Craig Hamilton beat Alex Walker (Troon St. Meddans) by 3/2.

In the second semi final, John Cairney beat Brian Moore (Largs) by one hole.

Cairney had been 3 up with 4 to play but Moore took three successive holes to square the match after 17.

Both players hit great drives to the front of the green at the 377 yard final hole, with Cairney chipping and putting for a winning birdie 3.

Spectators are welcome to watch the final which takes place on Thursday evening, 8th May, with a 5.00 p.m. tee off.
