AYRSHIRE MATCHPLAY CHAMPIONSHIP - Wallace and Murray crash at quarter final stage

The hopes of Strokeplay Champion Steven Wallace (Prestwick St. Cuthbert) and defending champion Steven Murray (Troon Welbeck) were ended on Tuesday night, in the quarter finals of the 2008 Ayrshire Matchplay Championship at Western Gailes.

Wallace lost out by 2 & 1 to Craig Hamilton, the Ballochmyle player ending the match in style with a winning birdie 3 at the 17th.

Murray faced a local derby in his quarter final tie against Alex Walker (Troon St. Meddans), but it was the less fancied Walker who edged through by one hole to take a place in the semi finals.

In the third quarter final, 2006 Ayrshire Champion Of Champions winner Brian Moore (Largs) had a comfortable 3 & 2 win over second seed Paul Moultrie (Troon Portland) whilst the present Champion Of Champions title holder, John Cairney (Irvine Ravenspark) edged through by one hole in his tie against Colin Robinson (Largs)

The semi finals take place on Wednesday 7th May, with the fibnal being played the following night.
