IAN MASTERTON - Former Ayrshire Boys Champion passes away

Former Ayrshire Boys Champion Ian Masterton died on Sunday 14th September, aged 55.

Masterton won the Boys Championship as a 17 year old in 1970 over his home courses of Ayr Belleisle and Seafield with rounds of 73 and 71 for a 144 total.

This performance gave Masterton the title by two strokes from Brian Steveley (Irvine Ravenspark) with Alisdair Robertson (Troon St. Meddans) and a young Sam Torrance (Largs Routenburn)joint third on 147.

Masterton was a sporting all rounder and went on to become something of a legend in Scottish cricket circles, particularly through his association with Ayr Cricket Club where he was first XI captain and Club Chairman for a number of years. Masterton also had a brief spell with the Prestwick Cricket Club where he captained the second XI.

Ian's funeral is at Masonhill Crematorium in Ayr at 10.30 a.m. on Thursday 18th September and our sympathies are extended to his wife Stella and children Stevie and Genna.
