The field was reduced to fifteen clubs following the late withdrawal of Turnberry in the early afternoon of the event, and it was Prestwick St Cuthbert who posted the early lead in the event, with the best two scratch scores from three counting towards the team total, with a score of 146, which would eventually see the club finish in third place.

Robbie McFarlane posted no score as the first caprington player, but Ayrshire Golf Association Vice President Barry O'Rourke had five birdies in a one under par score of 68 which proved to be the best individual score of the day by three shots and importantly gave the third team member Andrew Gibson the chance to put caprington in the lead, which he duly did with a score of 73 to give the host club a team total of 141.

The eventual runners up in the championship were the title holders and defending champions Kilmarnock Barassie who finished four shots off the pace, and one shot ahead of Prestwick St Cuthbert, on 145.

At the conclusion of the championship Ayrshire Golf Association President Andrew Gilligan (Royal Troon) presented the R.L. Crawford Trophy to two of the winning Caprington team members, Barry O'Rourke and Andrew Gibson.
