AYRSHIRE JUNIOR TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP - West Kilbride and Turnberry take the honours in season opener

The Ayrshire Golf Association Championship season got under way on Sunday the 21st of April when the 2024 Ayrshire Junior Team Championship was contested at Kilbirnie Place Golf Club, where West Kilbride and Turnberry took the honours.


Nine member clubs were represented at the event with the best three scores from four in each team contributing to the team score.


West Kilbride retained the Matt Lygate Trophy and Ayrshire Junior Team Champions title by a single shot from Turnberry, with the team of Finlay Watt, Dylan Scally, Daren Docherty & Lyle Vogwell posting a team total of 222.




Turnberry took the Andrew D Nimmo Trophy for the best nett team score, Quintin Dunlop, Euan Forrest, Ben Slatter and Gregor hay combining for a team total of 219.




Harris Vennard (Ayr Belleisle) was the winner of the Carrick Trophy for the best individual nett return of the day, with his score of 74-5=69 to win the trophy by a single shot.



The Prestwick Circuits Trophy for the best individual scratch score of the championship was won by reigning Ayrshire Boys Strokeplay Champion Scott Newman (Royal Troon) who posted an excellent two under par score of 67, his three bogeys at the 8th 14th and 18th being countered by birdies at the 5th, 10th, 13th, 16th and 17th.






At the conclusion of the championship Ayrshire Golf Association President Andrew Gilligan (Royal Troon) presented the trophies and prize vouchers to the succesful competitors.

The Ayrshire Golf Association would like to thank thank the committee and members of Kilbirnie Place Golf Club for hosting the championship and the warm welcome extended to players and officials during the championship.
