AYRSHIRE SENIORS CHAMPIONSHIP - Historic second title win for Allan Merry

2016 Ayrshire Seniors Champion
Allan Merry
Allan Merry (West Kilbride) created history at the 2016 Ayrshire Seniors Championship, held at Ballochmyle on Tuesday 12th July, when he became the first player to lift the sandy Provan Trophy for the second time.

The winner of the championship two years ago at Prestwick St Cuthbert, eight handicapper Merry posted a best of the day nett 69 to take the trophy and title of 2016 county seniors champion.

Best scratch return of the competition was recorded by three handicapper Iain McCall (Prestwick St Nicholas). Playing in the county seniors championship for the first time, McCall returned a four over par total of 74.

The winners of the three age categories were all from the host club, with players from Brunston Castle, Irvine Ravenspark, Muirkirk, Annanhill and Irvine collecting the other handicap age categories prizes.

At the conclusion of the championship, AGA Secretary Alasdair Malcolm thanked the club and staff for their hospitality and Past President Ricky Magee handed over the prizes to the successful players before passing the Sandy Provan Trophy to the 2016 winner, Allan Merry.
