AYRSHIRE JUNIOR GOLF LEAGUE - St. Cuthbert take advantage with win at Ballochmyle

With less than three weeks to go until the conclusion of the qualifying matches, there are a number of important fixtures still to be completed to decide the four semi finalists in the 2005 League Championship

In Section A, St. Cuthbert won an important crunch match this week with a 3.5 - 2.5 advantage away to Ballochmyle. Ballochmyle had earlier renewed their challenge with home wins over Routenburn and New Cumnock by 4-2 and 6-0 respectively. In the other match played recently, Annanhill moved into mid table with a 4-2 home win over Routenburn. Present positions in the section are :-

TEAM P/W/D/L/F/A/Dif/Pts
BALLOCHMYLE 7/4/2/1/28.5/13.5/+15/20
ST. CUTHBERT 7/4/2/1/25.5/16.5/+9/20

ROUTENBURN 5/1/1/3/12.5/17.5/-5/6
NEW CUMNOCK 5/0/2/3/8/22/-14/ 2

St. Cuthbert and Ballochmyle both face away matches in their final fixtures, which will decide who qualifies for the semi finals, with St. Cuthbert travelling to New Cumnock on Saturday 23 July and Ballochmyle visiting Routenburn the following day. New Cumnock will be keen to gain their first win of the season, whilst Routenburn, who also have remaining home matches against Annanhill and New Cumnock will be hoping for a late charge to secure a high finishing spot in the section.

In Section B, West Kilbride secured a 4-2 win at Kilmarnock Barassie to move into second in the table. Present positions are :-

TEAM/P/W/D/L/F/A/Dif/Pts
LARGS 5/4/0/1/19.5/10.5/+9/16
WEST KILBRIDE 5/4/0/1/17.5/12.5/+5/16

BARASSIE 6/1/1/4/16.5/19.5/-3/6

In a close section, three teams can still take the top spot, with 6 fixures remaining to be completed by the end of July.

In Section C, Kilbirnie's hopes crashed with their first defeat of the season, by 5-1 at Belleisle, being followed by a 4.5-1.5 loss on their trip to Loudoun. Troon Welbeck took over top spot after a 5.5 - 0.5 home win over St. Nicholas. Present positions in the section are :-

TEAM P/W/D/L/F/A/Dif/Pts
TROON WELBECK 6/3/2/1/22.5/13.5/+9/16

ST. NICHOLAS 5/0/0/5/6.5/23.5/-17/0

With 6 fixtures remaining to be completed in the section, any one of four teams still have hopes of reaching the semi finals.

In Section D, Caprington installed themselves as favourites to topple the defending champions, Ardeer, after recording their second successive win in the section, a 4-2 home win over Ravenspark. Present positions in the section are:-

TEAM/P/W/D/L/F/A/Dif/Pts
CAPRINGTON 2/2/0/0/8.5/3.5/+5/8
RAVENSPARK 4/2/0/2/12.5/11.5/+1/8
ARDEER 4/2/0/2/11.5/12.5/-1/8
SKELMORLIE 2/0/0/2/3.5/8.5/-5/0

With 6 section matches still to be completed, three of the four teams could still qualify, with only Skelmorlie's task looking unlikely in the quest for the semi finals.
