AYRSHIRE JUNIOR GOLF LEAGUE - semi final draws made for three competitions

The semi-final draws for three Ayrshire Junior Golf League were made recently as the various competitions move towards the finals days in August.

In the AYRSHIRE JUNIOR GOLF LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP, qualifying SECTION A is presently led by Irvine, with a quarter of the twenty league fixtures completed.

In SECTION B, West Kilbride won their latest fixture away to Prestwick St Cuthbert by 5-1 to keep the pressure on league leaders Kilmarnock Barassie, with half of the twelve league fixtures completed. Present positions in Section B are:-

In the UNDER 16 KNOCKOUT COMPETITION, Irvine booked their semi final place with a 2.5-1.5 home win over Ayr Belleisle.

The semi final draw, with ties due to be completed by the 27^th of July, paired Irvine at home to Prestwick St Nicholas and Kilmarnock Barassie at home to Troon Welbeck.

In the scratch team knockout competition for the WALLACE THORNTON TROPHY semi finals Troon Welbeck will be at home to Turnberry and West Kilbride will host Irvine, with ties to be completed by the 27^th of July.

In the JUNIOR CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS TROPHY competition, Liam Moran (Irvine) beat Sandi Rogerson (Kilmarnock Barassie) by 2&1 to book a quarter final place and will visit Ethan McMurdo (Prestwick St Nicholas) in the quarter finals. Orla Moran (Ayrshire Girls Strokeplay Champion) received a walkover from Josh Erskine (Caprington) in their quarter final match.

The semi final draw, with ties to be completed by the 27^th of July, sees Finlay watt (West Kilbride) host Euan Forrest (Turnberry) and the winner of the tie between Ethan McMurdo and Liam Moran will host Orla Moran.

   

 

AYRSHIRE SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS - Women's event postponed for 2025 and entries still being taken for men's event

The introduction of an Ayrshire Senior Women's Championship has been postponed for 2025 and will be recoinsidered for 2026.

As very few enquiries had been received by the end of  May, it was decided to postpone the introduction of an Ayrshire Senior Women's Championship in 2025 and reconsider the proposed event for 2026.

The Association intend to have a meeting at the end of the 2025 season with women representatives of the member clubs to discuss and consider this and other events and competition formats in the future.

The Ayrshire Senior Men's Championship will still take place as arranged this year, on Tuesday the 8th of July at Loudoun Gowf Club, and the cancellation of the women's event has resulted in more tee times becoming available for the men's event.

Entriy for the men's championship is £10 and is open to members of Ayrshire Golf Association affiliated clubs who are aged 50 or over on the day of the competition.

The Sandy Provan Trophy will be won by the player returning the best nett score on the day and there will also be a scratch prize and several handicap prizes in three age categories, as well as nearest the pin prizes and an optional twos event. 

The players returning the best eight scratch scores in the championship will progress to contest the Ayrshire senior men's matchplay Championship.

Entries are still being taken for the mens event and tee times will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

AYRSHIRE GOLF ASSOCIATION CHARITY GOLF DAY - Entries now being invited for 2025 event

Entries are now being invited for the 2025 Ayrshire Golf Association Charity Golf Day, which will be held at Troon Lochgreen golf course on Friday the 12th of September.

Following the success of the inaugural event in 2024, the 2025 event will follow the same format as previously, as a four player texas scramble competition.

Entry per team is £200 which will include soup and sandwiches refreshments in the clubhouse for team members, and all funds raised on the day will be donated to The Association's partner charity for 2025, Ayrshire cancer Support.

Entries should be submitted to the event administrator, Liz Keohone, at the details provided on the poster below.

DOC THOM AYRSHIRE ORDER OF MERIT - John Shanks moves into pole position after Belleisle Cup win

John Shanks (Irvine) has moved to the top of the Ayrshire Order of Merit table for the Doc Thom Salver after a win in the 2025 Belleisle Cup competition on Sunday the 1st of June. 

In what was a memorable weekend, which included a hole in one at the 9th hole in the Ayr Seafield Open on Saturday, John won the prestigious 36 hole competition for The Belleisle Cup with a two round total of 139, which left him four ahead of his nearest challengers, Blair Morton (Royal Troon), Graeme Cross (Paisley, and Colin Goudie (Ayr Belleiskle) on 143.

With the recent Ayr Seafield Open and Prestwick St Cuthbert Open resupts still to be confirmed, the present positions in the Doc Thom Ayrshire Order of Merit are:-

 

AYRSHIRE WOMEN'S MATCHPLAY CHAMPIONSHIP - Draw for 2025 championship at Largs confirmed

The eight players who will contest the 2025 Ayrshire Women's Matchplay Championship at Largs Golf Club from the 23rd to the 25th of June have been confirmed and the draw published.

The new Ayrshire Women's Strokeplay Champion Kelly McNee (Loudoun) leads the qualifiers who will play on the Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings to determine the 2025 winner.

Loudoun, Kilmarnock Barassie, Ayr belleisle Ladies, irvine, largs, and Turnberry are represented in the championship this year.

The 2025 Ayrshire Women's Strokeplay Championship was held at Loudoun Gowf Club on Sunday the 1st of June, with host club members winning the trophies in both the scratch and handicap categories.

In testing, breezy, and sometimes damp conditions, Kelly McNee took the Championship trophy with a scratch score of 72, edging out Orla Moran (Irvine) who set the early pace with the same scratch total  by virtue of the better inward half.

Jennifer Linklater (Largs) was four shots further back on 76, with former winner Audrey Thompson (Loudoun) finishing if fourth place in the scratch list on 79.

19 handicapper Sheila Kennedy made it two trophies for the host club members, taking the handicap championship rosebowl with a nett score of 65, two shots clear of the rest of the field.

Second nett prize was won by Elizabeth McConnell (Rowallan Castle) with 95-24=71, by virtue of the better inward half ahead of Jacqueline Train (Largs) with 84-13=71. 

Fourth nett prize went to leigh Duff (Largs) with 87-15=72

The two nearest the pin prizes were also won by host club members, Kelly McNee winning the prize at the 4th hole with a distance of 457 centimetres while Audrey Thompson won the prize at the 11th hole with a distance of 737 centimetres.

At the conclusion of the championship Ayrshire Golf Association President Andrew Gilligan (Royal Troon) announced the prizewinners and handed over prize vouchers to the succesful competitors, and presented the trophies to the two championship winning players for 2025.

THE AYRSHIRE JUNIOR GOLF LEAGUE - Latest results round up

Several fixtures have been completed recently in the various Ayrshire Junior Golf League competitions, with three events heading towards the semi final stages. 

In the AYRSHIRE JUNIOR GOLF LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP, matches in both qualifying sections are under way.

In SECTION A, despite a 3.5-2.5 away defeat by East Ayrshire, Irvine presently lead the way as a result of a recent 4.5-1.5 home win over Troon Welbeck.

In the other fixture in the section played recently, Turnberry shared the spoils with their visitors from Prestwick St Nicholas in a 3-3 draw.

In SECTION B Kilmarnock Barassie lead after 4 – 2 wins at home to West Kilbride and away at Prestwick St Cuthbert. In the two fixtures between Ayr Belleisle and West Kilbride it was the home teams that recorded wins, by 5-1 at Belleisle and 4-2 at West Kilbride.

Qualifying sections continue until the 27^th of July with the section winners going forward to contest the League Championship final.

In the UNDER 16 KNOCKOUT TROPHY competition, Prestwick St Nicholas secured their place in the last four with a 3-1 home win over Annanhill.

With the result of the Irvine vs Ayr Belleisle match still to be confirmed, the winner will join Prestwick St Nicholas, Kilmarnock Barassie and Troon Welbeck in the draw for the semi finals.

In the scratch team knockout competition for THE WALLACE THORNTON TROPHY, a 2.5-1.5 away win at Kilmarnock Barassie gave Troon Welbeck a place in the semi finals alongside Turnberry, Irvine and West Kilbride.

In the AYRSHIRE JUNIOR CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS TROPHY competition Liam Moran (Irvine) won his first round tie at home to Sandi Rogerson (Kilmarnock Barassie) by 2&1 to set up a visit to play Ethan McMurdo (Prestwick St Nicholas) in the quarter finals.

Josh Erskine (Caprington) hosts Orla Moran (Irvine) in another quarter final, while Finlay Watt (West Kilbride) and Euan Forrest (Turnberry) have booked their places in the semi finals with home wins, by 2&1 and 5&4 against Gregor Hay (Ayr Belleisle) and Quintin Dunlop (Ayrshire Boys matchplay Champion)  respectively in the quarter finals.
