Cameron Gray (West Kilbride) and John Shanks (Ardeer) will feature in Friday's Quarter Finals on the Scottish Boys Championshp at West Kilbride after two victories on Thursday.
Cameron Gray maintained his impressive winning margins in the morning, beating Andrew wallace (Glenbervie) by 7 & 5, to reach the last 16. The 5th round match, against Andrew Killen (St. Andrews) , was not such easy going for Gray, but he managed to edge past his opponent and into the quarter finals at the 20th hole of his afternoon match.
In the quarter final on Friday morning, Gray will play James Byrne (Banchory).
John Shanks (Ardeer) had a close match on Thursday morning, edging past Scott Fraser (Northern) at the first extra hole, but he produced one of the most notable results of the week in the afternoon, beating Fraser Ogston (St. Andrews) on the final green, after taking an early three hole lead in the match.
In the quarter finals Shanks will play Jamie Neilson (Dunbar).
The other Ayrshire player still in the competition on Thursday morning, Jamie Mackay (Kilmarnock Barassie) had a comfortable 5 & 4 win over Jamie Reid (Royal Mussleburgh) to reach the last 16, but his hopes were ended in the afternoon by Michael Main (Thornton) who defeated mackay by 3 & 2.

AYRSHIRE LADIES COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP - Hendry makes it two in a row
Lesley Hendry (Largs Routenburn) retained the Ayrshire Ladies County Championship on Wednesday at Western Gailes, beating Ros Kennedy (Troon Ladies) in an extremely close final with good golf on display, despite the wet and windy conditions.
In the morning Semi Finals, Lesley Hendry eased past former winner Sharon Lambie (Troon Ladies) by 4 & 3, whilst Ros Kennedy ended the challenge of Morag McPherson (Turnberry) on the 17th green, with a 2 & 1 victory.

Chris Harkins (Ayr Belleisle) ended Tommy McInally's 3 year hold on the Champion Of Champions title in the first round of the 2006 competition with a 3 & 2 win at Belleisle last week.
Harkins' notable win now gives him a home tie against P. Johnstone (Irvine No 1) in round 2.

AYRSHIRE LADIES COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP - Hendry remains on course to retain title
Lesley Hendry (Largs Routenburn) remains on course to retain the Ayrshire Ladies' County Championship, securing a semi final place after the first two match play rounds were completed on Tuesday 11th April at Western Gailes.
Hendry had a comfortable 8 & 7 win over Christina Milroy (Loudoun) in the morning and met Lesley Williamson (Kilmarnock Barassie) in the quarter finals after Williamson beat former champion Jame Finnie (Troon Ladies) 5 & 4 in the first round.
Hendry secured her semi final place with a 6 & 5 win over Williamson in the afternoon.
In other first round matches, Sharon Lambie (Troon Ladies) beat clubmate Rosemary Donaldson at the 19th, whilst Rosalyn Purdon (Prestwick St. Nicholas) and Debbie Watt (Belleisle Ladies) secured 6 & 5 wins over Liz Keohone (Loudoun) and Nora McCrossin (Troon Ladies) respectively.

AYRSHIRE LADIES COUNTY GOLF ASSOCIATION - Defending champion leads qualifiers for match play
The start of the qualifying round for the 2006 Ayrshire Ladies County Golf Championship at Western Gailes on Monday 10th April was delayed for 45 minutes due to heavy overnight frost rendering the course unplayable at the scheduled start time.

AYRSHIRE FOURBALL - Ravenspark secure second round place
The Irvine Ravenspark pairing of Ronnie Potts and Ian Wilson fought back from 4 down after 5 holes, in wet and windy conditions on Friday, to progress to the second round of the Fourball when they entertained father and son pairing from Stewarton, Alan and Alan Stewart.
Despite the early setback, the Ravenspark gained a last green victory, winning the tie by two holes.
In round 2, the Ravenspark pairing now play host to I. Steel and B. O'Rourke from Kilbirnie.

AYRSHIRE BOYS TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP - 16 teams contest 2006 championship.
16 teams will contest the 2006 Ayrshire Boys Team Championship, the traditional opener to the Ayrshire junior golf season, which will be held on Sunday 16th April at Caprington.
Kilmarnock (Barassie) will bid to winthe Matt Lygate Trophy, and the premier title of Ayrshire Boys Tean Champions for a third successive tear, whilst Ballochmyle return to defend the Andrew D. Nimmo Trophy, and title of handicap Team Champions, secured over their home course 12 months ago.
Neither Robert McKnight (Kilmarnock Barassie) or David Robertson (Ballochmyle) return to defend the individual Prestwick Circuits and Carrick trophies respectively, leaving the way open for new winners of both these awards this season.

With the 16 first round ties in the 2006 Ayrshire Champion Of Champions Trophy event due to be completed by 16th April, a number of the ties have been completed recently.
Andrew Scanlon (Auchenharvie) received a walkover against S.A. Leonard (Royal Troon) and now plays host to Tommy Loy (Ballochmyle) in the second round.
Henry Thomson (Irvine) secured a home tie in the second round against D. Robertson (Crosshouse) after a crushing 7 & 6 defeat of J. McIntyre (Seafield), at Bogside, in the opening round.
Largs representative Brian Moore had a home win by 6 & 5 over B. O'Rourke (Kilbirnie) in round 1, and now plays host to R. McCubbin (Durward) at the second stage.
Kilmarnock Barassie's Ross Dixon had a 2 & 1 win over Ramsay Eccles (Maybole) in the opening round, to set up a home tie against Colin Craig (Troon Welbeck) in round 2.

SCOTTISH BOYS CHAMPIONSHIP - 16 Ayrshire players bid for national title
16 players from Ayrshire clubs take their place amongst the 256 competitors in the Scottish Boys Championship when it returns to West Kilbride from Monday 10th to Saturday 15th April 2006.

AYRSHIRE GOLF ASSOCIATION - Ayrshire make it two wins from two at Barassie
After the 2 previous matches had fallen victim to the weather, Kilmarnock (Barassie) played host to the final club challenge match of the season for the Ayrshire team.
Both sides fielded strong teams with Barassie taking the early lead with Scottish internationalist Robert McKnight edging out Tom Loy in a closely contested match, by 1 up in the lead tie.
The 2nd tie was declared a half with due to the late unavailability of the Ayrshire player, whilst tie three also resulted in a share of the points with Nicky Sinclair and Kevin Ferguson playing out an honourable half.
Alasdair Leggate stretched Barassie’s lead to 3 - 1 with a controlled victory over David Glass by 3&2, but in tie 5 Jim Milligan, struggling with an injured arm from early in the round, crashed to a 7 & 6 defeat to Steven McBlain, to make the match score 3 - 2.
Further Ayrshire wins from Fraser McCall and Darren Mallinson over Robbie Fulker and Richard Aspin put Ayrshire in the lead, but Callum Sharp squared the match with a last green victory over Alan Connery.
In the final two ties, the Ravenspark pair of John Cairney and George Robertson secured the win for the County with wins over Stuart Miller by 4&3 and Alex Reid (5&4) respectively.
The Ayrshire Golf Association would like to record their thanks to Kilmarnock (Barassie) Golf Club for the hospitality on the day and their ongoing support towards the inter club matches, and indeed thanks all the clubs who played, or were scheduled to play the county side in the pre season series this year.

Both sides fielded strong teams with Barassie taking the early lead with Scottish internationalist Robert McKnight edging out Tom Loy in a closely contested match, by 1 up in the lead tie.
The 2nd tie was declared a half with due to the late unavailability of the Ayrshire player, whilst tie three also resulted in a share of the points with Nicky Sinclair and Kevin Ferguson playing out an honourable half.
Alasdair Leggate stretched Barassie’s lead to 3 - 1 with a controlled victory over David Glass by 3&2, but in tie 5 Jim Milligan, struggling with an injured arm from early in the round, crashed to a 7 & 6 defeat to Steven McBlain, to make the match score 3 - 2.
Further Ayrshire wins from Fraser McCall and Darren Mallinson over Robbie Fulker and Richard Aspin put Ayrshire in the lead, but Callum Sharp squared the match with a last green victory over Alan Connery.
In the final two ties, the Ravenspark pair of John Cairney and George Robertson secured the win for the County with wins over Stuart Miller by 4&3 and Alex Reid (5&4) respectively.
The Ayrshire Golf Association would like to record their thanks to Kilmarnock (Barassie) Golf Club for the hospitality on the day and their ongoing support towards the inter club matches, and indeed thanks all the clubs who played, or were scheduled to play the county side in the pre season series this year.

PRESTWICK TO HOST PALMER CUP - junior golfers sought to caddy in the event
Prestwick Golf Club will host the PALMER CUP from Tuesday 27 June to Friday 30 June 2006.
The event is a collegiate match, inaugurated in 1997, and contested between the United States of America and Europe.
Previous venues, in what is undoubtedly a prestige event, have included Bay Hill, Florida, The Old and New Courses at St. Andrews, The Honors Course, Chattanooga, Royal Liverpool (Hoylake), Baltusrol, Kiawa Island and Ballybunnion, amongst others.
Participants in previous years have included Luke Donald of England and Open Champion Ben Curtis.
interested junior golfers in Ayrshire are being sought to act as caddies during the event.
There will be a total of 16 caddies required, one for each competitor, and a draw will take place to match caddies with players. Caddies will remain with their allocated player throughout the 4 days of the event.
REQUIREMENTS
It is essential that successful applicants will be available for ALL FOUR DAYS.
Ideally, applicants will be between 16 and 18 years of age
Applicants should be a good standard of golfer (single figure handicap)
CALENDAR OF EVENTS
Tuesday 27 June – Practice Day
Wednesday 28 June - Pro Am Event
Thursday 29 June – Palmer Cup matches (36 holes)
Friday 30 June – Palmer Cup matches (36 holes)
Whilst there will be a level of remuneration for those selected to caddie in the event, a greater obvious benefit to those involved will be their participation in a major event, being on the range and on the course with the best players and coaches from the European and United States colleges circuits.
There will also be the possibility of a coaching clinic, involving coaches taking part in the event, being made available to local juniors.
This event provides a great opportunity to local junior golfers to be involved in a top event with the best players.
Application forms will be available to interested juniors, through their home club convenors, in the near future, or can be requested directly by e mail from Alasdair Malcolm at

Interest in participation is expected to be high, and consequently an early return of the application forms is advised.

SCOTTISH BOYS GOLF - Cameron Gray helps Scotland to win in Quadrangular Tourney
Cameron Gray (West Kilbride) helped Scotland’s young golfers to win the Boys’ Quadrangular event at St Cyprien in France this week, their first win in the event since 1995.
The Scots defeated Sweden 6-3 in the third round match, to maintain their 100% record in the tournament.
The Scots got off to a shaky start, as Cameron Gray and Newmachar’s Lewis Kirton lost the first of the morning foursomes 4&2. However, after James Byrne (Banchory) and Ross Leeds (Muckhart) defeated their opponents on the final green and Ross Kellett (Colville Park) and James White (Lundin) combined well, winning 2&1, the Scots were back in pole position.
In the afternoon, Kirton, Gray and Byrne took the first three singles matches, giving the Scots an unassailable lead.
In the end the Scots won by two clear points having won all three of their matches, while Sweden, Italy and hosts France could only muster one win each over the three days.
