MAYBOLE GOLF CLUB - Sad end for 118 year old club with decision to wind up operations

The Ayrshire golf community has been dealt a blow with the news that, following their recent AGM, Maybole Golf Club is to close with immediate effect.

The 118-year-old club, which plays out of the nine-hole municipal course, in the town, run by Golf South Ayrshire announced the news of a local Facebook page this week.

Though the club is closing the course, one of eight local authority municipal courses in South Ayrshire, administered by Golf South Ayrshire, remains open and in operation as before.

Despite sterling work by a small number of individuals to keep the club active in recent years, the lack of support from the local community in boosting the membership, despite the best efforts of those involved in the club, led to the sad decision to close the club.

The club have offered the opportunity to family members to reclaim trophies donated by family members over the years, by getting in touch with the former club officials.

Maybole Golf Club have produced many fine players over the years, and in particular the junior section of the club was at the forefront of The Ayrshire Junior Golf League in the 1970’s, 1980’s, and 1990's.

The Ayrshire Golf Association extend best wishes to all the former members of Maybole Golf Club, following the sad loss of the historic club from the Ayrshire golfing landscape.
